Multi-purpose Sportsbike Ideas

A friend of mine is selling his Triumph 1050 sport. Took me ages to convince him that he should have the mantra 'you're here for a goodtime not a long time' and buy a new bike you miserable bastard!

Anyay. He now wants an upright sportstype bike with very good power. Higher screen or potential for fitting a higher one. And large tank as he does a fair bit of touring. The lighter bike the better

He's been looking the The BMW R1250 RS. I had a sit on the RS. It had fairly low seat height. The boxer engine seems to keep the weight down low which I like and felt surprisingly light uptop. I quite liked it. Also had a squint at the M1000RR. Stunning bike but hell of an expensive.

What other options do you think there are out there guys for my mate?

If he's considering an M1000, he should be considering a Kawasaki H2. Makes more torque and at lower revs and comes with panniers.

Gsxs1000gt. Had an s (naked) and now have a gx.... engine and gearbox amazing.
Brilliant bike and better rhan the z1000sx I had previously.

I sat on a R1250RS recently. It was nice, but given how expensive it is it didn't really feel special and the newer Beemers don't seem to be as reliable. I'm sure it rides like a peach though, it's a bona-fide sporters tourer (which is what it sounds like he wants). Worth looking at a Ninja 1000SX if he can cope with a chain but no centre stand (that put me off) - they're fabulous bikes.

Apparently Kawasaki are to release a Ninja 1100SX, although the press release I read suggests a power drop (dodgy press release? Or maybe "increased flexibility in lieu of max power", aka emissions improvements). Wonder if they're going to add a centre stand as part of the upgrade? Apparently on the 1000SX they're impossible to retrofit because of the exhaust location (maybe a very custom exhaust could help there) which to me is bonkers on a sports touring bike with a chain.
