Hello.
Has anyone done the northwest 500 and can recommend overnight accomodation? Doesn't need to be fancy. Not camping, or sharing bunkbeds with hippies
I live down the East Coast, East Lothian and have never done the Northwest 500.
Got an overnighter respite for my son in September, so would be then. One night stop only so mostly riding.
I'm looking forward to it. Always have to have something to look forward to in life Outwith my next thrap. |

I'm probably far too late for your plans, but in case you didn't make it or you (or someone else) plan to go again I can recommend these two hotels from a trip I did in September over 4 nights with my Uncle:
Aultguish Inn, just outside Garve.
Altnaharra Hotel, about 20-30 mins South of Tongue.
Our plan was 2 nights in each hotel, to lessen the packing-up faff and give us a couple of days with no luggage.
Day 1: We rode up from Stirling to the Aultguish Inn, via Glencoe and Fort William.
Day 2: Loop around Applecross and Gairloch and back to Aultguish Inn for a second night.
Day 3: Blitz up the West Coast to Durness and Tongue and down to Altnaharra.
Day 4: Back up to North Coast at Bettyhill, then loop to John O'Groats, Helmsdale and back inland to Altnaharra for a second night.
Day 5: Back down South to Stirling via Aviemore and Tummel Bridge.
The Aultguish Inn, a decent place, not too fancy, rooms are basic, a little small, but clean and comfortable. Good restaurant and food, specialising in Transylvanian cuisine!
The Altnaharra Hotel, an old-world hunting lodge style place, bit more up market, great food, very cosy feel, a lovely atmosphere after dinner around the fire in the lounge having a few drams and blether with other guests. Before heading outside to catch the Northern Lights. Definitely the better of the two and one I'll certainly seek out for a return visit. Quite remote, beautiful countryside, quiet empty roads in and out. TBH these more inland roads are way better than much of the Eastern half of the main NC500 route.
We paid ~£700 total for 4 nights in twin rooms, including breakie, for mid-Sept. ____________________ Beginner Biker Adventures Blog
