Hello all,

I'm a developer currently thinking of creating a new platform for selling and buying motorbikes. I see a lot of frustration around using Autotrader/Ebay/Facebook to sell or browse bikes so thought I'd drop into an old forum and check out what features you guys would find useful and what frustrations you find with the current platforms on offer.

All input appreciated!

You need to vet sellers to verify their sales, If you fail to do so correctly then you need to guarantee a 100% refund of fraudulent transactions. Then you will get sales. This of course will never happen.

is there room for another? You can develop the best platform in the world but you will need to spend ££££££s to promote itand get it used.
A fool's errand for an individual IMO.

Also you missed out Car and Classic. I've sold through them as well as ebay and I rate them.

a built in dickhead filter for messages, where if someone sends you:

"WATS UR BEST PRICE?"
"LOWEST???"
"I NO WOT ITS WORF"
"HELLO I WORK ON OIL RIGS..."

it automatically sends the message straight to the bin, and sends a reply to them of a giant spinning helicopter dick and full volume gay porn sound clips in the hope theyre somewhere public without headphones.

Honestly the biggest frustration with any selling platform, is the chancers and time wasters. Which I dont think anything can realistically be done about. Also the fees on most platforms are ridiculous, £50 for a basic ad on AutoTrader, are you taking the piss? Even more annoying when I was last selling a car, it was a fairly high value car that I figured nobody in their right mind would bother with pikey salesplaces for shifting stolen goods like FB marketplace. So I paid to put it on AT, ad expired with not a single message about it, paid to put it on eBay, ad expired with not a single message about it.

Figured it was worth a punt on FB as it wouldnt cost me anything... Put it on Marketplace for free, sold within a few days. But you do have to endure endless messages from dickheads trying to get a £15k car for £2.50 and some haribo. Or asking if youll swap it for their clapped out Corsa/stolen iPhone/ex missus

I think most people are moving away from anywhere that isnt FB Marketplace or Gumtree because fuck paying their ludicrous listing fees and/or final item value fees.

Here's an idea: sliding scale final feel. You sell it in a week, full price. Takes over a month, no charge.

There will always be shit heads, dick heads, time wasters, scammers etc so the next 'perfect platform' will be a failure too.

I still use Gumtree and have a few strategies to help filter out the scum
like spare PAYG phones and email addresses to handle calls and messages
that I can easily ignore.
I do tend to ignore texts right off the bat as they're usually time wasters
as most serious buyers are more likely to call in my experience.
