I have aluminium boxes that came with the BMW, can't keep them clean, or at least I can't get the salt stains off them from riding all year round. I've tried all sorts of polishes. Any hints or tips to get them looking new again?

Is it just staining or is it actual corrosion?

Jolly good clean up and a coat of clear acrylic varnish mebbe?
I reckon it could help act as an oxidisation barrier.
It's pretty cheap and I've uused it on some outside stuff and it held up well

I'd give a dollop of toothpaste on a wet sponge a try.

If you want them to be low maintenance and clean looking, then answer might be to paint them, or as suggested some form of clear coat.
Hard anodizing something that size would be awkward and expensive,.even if you could buy the acid required.

I've become a fan of 'The Pink Stuff' in a tub.

It makes a passable alternativee to solvol autosol - especially if you have a larger area to cover.
