So I joined a group on Faceslap where members can post up PC hardware for sale, and came across a RTX 3080 GPU which would have been perfect for me.

Contacted the guy, agreed a price, he asked that I paid via Skrill ... he gave me his email and phone number, printed out and sent me a picture of the Royal Mail tracked 24 label with my name/address and a return address ... this was on Sunday the 18th, so expected parcel on Tuesday.

So over the past 5 days nothing, I've contacted him and first excuse was it was in his workplaces postroom, next day he confirmed it hadn't been sent and that it would be that day, it wasn't.

Remembered I'd he'd given me his supposed number, so called today and ask to speak to *name blanked out*, he replied "speaking" and he hung up when I asked him where the feck the card was.

So, I have his email, his phone number and address (most likely) and have called the cops, who'll get back in touch with me tomorrow to et all the info and give me a crime ref ... also reported to credit card company but don't know if they'll help as it was a private sale.

I really can't figure out whether he's changed his mind about selling (in which case where's my dosh) or if he's just a dumb kunt who has supplied me with what seems to be his real details and has scammed me!

The card was going into the new PC I'm building at the moment, replacing the current 14 year old system ... looks like that ain't happening.

First time for everything, the group itself looks legit, plenty of items for sale which have been bought ... just the one kunt!

Was just just over £200, and yes hopefully I'll get it back ... just filled in the claims form for the credit card and was told they'd probably try and claim the money back from Skrill ... so we shall see.

Now looking on Fleabay for another RTX 3080 ... a few going although a bit more expensive ... but at least Fleabay should give me money back if an item doesn't arrive (supposedly).

Anybody who lives in Manchester, if you fancy paying someone a visit when you're bored then let me know and I'll pass on the details Laughing

Little kunt hung up on me because I said "where is the fuckin card" ... says he'll be in touch later.

I've already informed my credit card company and I'll be giving the police all the details tomorrow ... if I get the card then great, otherwise my money back would be ideal!

Fingers crossed!

The police won't do anything they will say it's a civil matter.
If you paid by credit card you should be OK though.

Good choice of card. The 30 series were a generational leap. I got my 3070 when they came out and it still runs everything I throw at it. As long as it's not tasked with playing games 60fps at 4k!

I have bought and sold a lot of things online over the past few years. Generally speaking I will not sell anything over £500 without receiving a bank transfer and I will not buy anything without using credit card and/or paypal for some protection.

Unfortunately, sometimes the credit card companies/paypal are useless at protecting me and the 2 times that has happened, I have gone to small claims court. Both times as soon as the offender received the notice they were being "sued", they message me asking to pay immediately.

So if you have a name and address, do that!

The question is always "who am I dealing with?" at least with eBay and Amazon you know you're dealing with a machine with certain protections in place. Not to protect you mind, but to protect the machine from hassle Wink

Got an email from my credit card company earlier on today asking about my recent experience of how they responded to my payment dispute (or scam as I called it).

Forgot about, then remembered, so just went and checked on the app ... result, got the money back Praying Dance! Clapping

To say that I'm going to give them +ve feedback is putting it mildly!

I've decided against buying an old second hand GPU and will now wait until they release the RTX 5080 Super, which will hopefully have 24GB of VRAM ... and a guarantee Thumbs Up
