I still cant get my head around how putting the rider up higher and having air between them and the bike results in any real aero gain than having the rider tucked in on a bike thats 1ft shorter frontal area.

This may explain why I dont work in aerodynamics Laughing

looks silly and doesnt have a real engine anyways *mutters in beligerent old bastard*

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

It probably doesn't. The video reeks of AI slop.

It is actually real! https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2024/march/wmc250ev-land-speed-record/

But the claims made in that youtube video that it's the fastest electric motorcycle in the world aren't real because that title is held by this thing. https://www.voxan.mc/en/

Looks weird to me and pointless for normal road riding. Who the heck wants to hit 250mph on a bike...

Who doesn't?

But the way to look at it is it's all about optimising aerodynamics. Using top-speed as a test bed where air resistance becomes an exponentially higher problem the faster you go (when my mate put nitrous on his supercharged 'busa, the extra 100bhp give him 5mph on the top speed). So it's an ideal testing ground for what does and doesn't work.

Translate those findings to road speeds and you get a bike which does the same speed using less power (and therefore less fuel). Which is a win in every respect.

The thing is an interesting concept. Effectively giving you something much nearer laminar flow over the rider. It's the low pressure area under the rider that causes a lot of the drag issues on motorcycles.

As an aside, it's nice to see someone designing an electric motorcycle with aerodymanics in mind. Most of the concept or actual electric road bikes I see on the market have all the aerodynamics of a suitcase in an application where a super slippy fairing really ought to be one of their main considerations for both performance and range.

We see worse in the eBay's Most Miserable Bike thread and most of those don't even go fast.

The riding position might want to be a bit less extreme in order to appeal to the every day normal rider. But as stinkwheel says, aero plays a huge part in efficiency and everyone can benefit from that.

"The WMC250EV will achieve twice the mileage for the same electric charge than the current electric motorcycle market equivalent. With range limitations being the main concern of electric vehicle ownership, the WMC250EV solves a major problem. "

That doesn't sound pointless. https://whitemotorcycleconcepts.com/wmc250ev/
