Okay so its not brand new but its new to me! Smile

Just got home with my 1989 VFR400NC30. Its the RC30 lookalike (red, white and blue). Not had time to play with it properly but I'm sure I will have fun in the summer. Roll on sunny days (and my test date).

Nice one stew.. You had a quote for insurance on it yet?

How much are you gonna get for your NSR?

Hope you can get some pictures sorted soon so we can all have a look

Korn - why dont you put peoples new bikes on the visitors bike section. I know it's on nsr125.com but it's more than just a nsr125 site now

Ive had a couple of quotes. The good news is that it wont cost much more than the NSR did.(Half the reason I bought a 400).
Dunno how much I'll get for my NSR as I will still be using it until april.
Anyone got a clue how much it would be worth (good condition, 6mths tax, 6mths MOT, 6mths warranty. 1991 NSR125RK in red, white, blue 17500 miles). Oh and a pic of me test riding it.

Sure, if anybody wants their new bikes put up email them over. I usually wait until I have a few together before doing an update.

Stew- will you post a better picture of your NSR here please? I've seen one for sale in the same colours, but their picture is crap. Thanks.

Cheers guys glad you all approve!
Here is another picture of my NSR as requested.
Still not sure how much to sell it for. I hope to get enough to cover the cost of the VFR (a bargain at £1300?).

Thanks, it looks loads nicer than I was expecting it to, now I'm even more upset that the one I was looking at has been sold! Also, I don't know what condition it was in but that one was up for £750 (it was a '91 as well), so I don't know if you'll get £1300 (but I don't really know what I'm talking about). Thanks for posting the pic anyway Smile
PS I just looked in the back of Bike magazine and it says that a '92 NSR125R (the closest thing listed) is worth £775, but their estimates are always really low.

Is that the longest ever thread resurrection? I think it may well be.

What would be most impressive is Stew coming back on in reply saying he's still enjoying the bike! Laughing

I think he gave or sold the bike to his partner M. He bought a Virgin liveried YZF750 and had that for YEARS. Then he gave up riding for a few years due to having kids and so on (I think his son is called Connor) and just recently has bought himself some sort of hooligan KTM of some type, like an 790 or 890 duke. So he's completely left biking, had kids (who are close to adult if not actually so) and become a born again biker in the time since this thread was created.

Haha, summed up very well Marjay!

The NC30 is now one of those bikes that I wish I'd never let go, but then so too is the YZF750 - I'd love to see that again and it looks to have been issued a new V5 and MOt this year so that may well be possible.

In the last few years I've had a return to bikes and since 2020 have had a KTM Duke390, Duke890 and now on an Indian FTR1200 - as an old man I have now well and truly stuck with Naked bikes rather than faired sportsbikes.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/indianftr.jpg

My son, Connor is indeed now an adult and has a CBF125 of his own - so who knows he may follow us in the love of bikes - his dream bike is currently a Suzuki GSX8S/GSX8R. I have a daughter too, but so far she has only ventured as far as being a pillion rider.

Nice bike! I keep toying with an FTR as a next bike.

Do you think you could daily it? Thinking mostly about the quality of finishes and the real life tank range.

Tank range and the actual time it takes to fill up would probably be the factors that prevent it from being useful for commuting. The tank range for me is around 110-120 miles from the 13 litre capacity - but that’s if you can be bothered to spend that long to brim the tank. With the tank being under the seat, it doesn’t like to fill up fast as just when you think it’s full, it burps air and you get another half litre in. 10-15 seconds later it’ll do it again …. And again …. And again. When out with mates they have time to fill they’re (larger) tanks , go in , pay, get their helmets and gloves back in, take their gloves back off, take their phones and start recording how long it’s taking you to fill up.

All that being said, it’s an absolute hoot to ride, plenty of torque and it’s a real “light to light” rocket ship. It’s not your typical lightweight naked, but more of a hefty piece of “American Muscle”. For me though, it doesn’t it all, from pootling around town to track days (yes I took it on track a few months ago). The fit and finish is great, and also the quality components such as brembos, sachs or ohlins suspension, akrapovic exhaust (all model dependent) etc - I’ve put around 6000 miles on it in the year that I’ve owned it and apart from tyres, oil change and a replacement fuel sensor (£12 plus postage for an OEM Polaris model) it has needed nothing.

Although it’s needed nothing - I also can’t stop changing things up, for example it was white when I bought it with a rear rack and a wind screen (I think the former owner may have actually used this as a daily rider because of this).

It’s a bike that grabs attention at bike nights, as it’s a great looking bike (not just my opinion), not very common and the v-twin engine sounds great too. When you mention the brand Indian to people they immediately think of the Scout or Chieftain but rarely do they consider the FTR so this often gets questions asked about it.
