 |
|
Hi guys, quick question. I’ve ridden bikes for over 30 years now, however in the last 10 years it’s been mostly scooters for local commuting. My old textile Hein Gericke pants were slung in the back of the wardrobe as I was usually wearing denim jeans. The inner lining of the Hein Gericke’s had become ripped, so I’d looked for a replacement pair, and just by chance the replacements were a relatively cheap pair of Frank Thomas Rally textile jeans. I removed the thermal liner last night, and we went out the evening on the bikes. Apart from the fact that the inner lining ripped even before I’d got on my bike, I was absolutely roasting in these jeans, on or off the bike, I was so uncomfortable it was unreal.
The question I’m asking are :
1, my pal suggests wearing a base layer under the pants, to control the moisture and not feel sticky, as that was the uncomfortable feeling, rather really than just your legs getting hot
2, is it that the pants are inexpensive and perhaps not able to regulate moisture in the same way as a better pair ?
3, does anyone have any solution, like a particular pant they own that offers protection and waterproofing whilst not getting you hot and sticky ?
Thanks for ready, any help appreciated |

In my long experience. There are fabrics which are breathable and there are fabrics which are waterproof. Any fabric claiming to be both is actually neither.
In the summer, wear comfortable bike trousers. Carry a set of lightweight waterproofs to throw over the top if it rains. Take them off again after. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
