I don't do it for others, I do it for me. I'm long past caring what other people think of the way I look, but it is quite important to not smell bad when encountering other people IMO. I style my hair a bit when I can, but if I'm riding the bike I don't want to get mousse or hairspray or something inside the helmet lining, so I just comb it and end up looking scruffy. Does that matter? No, not really.

Does fashion matter so much now? Not with what the kids these days are wearing. We'd have got beaten up for wearing trousers up around our calves and socks with slides, but that now seems to be the 'thing'. I want to like the clothes I wear, but I don't go to effort to be especially fashionable. I don't think that's a total surprise as that's exactly what 45 year old men did when I was a teenager.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

i stopped caring what other people think about me some time ago.

i keep my hair at crew cut length so that i dont have to brush it, and i wear clothes that are practical and comfortable.
i wash with coal tar soap, including my hair, and i dont put things on my body to make me smell like a French tart.

i just wish i had this attitude when i was a young man.

I get dressed up when I want to, not when others dictate & as for the whiff.. I don't smell like a whores draws but I don't smell like a tarts handbag either.

The point where you stop doing things for other people and do/wear what you want for yourself is the point where you actually start to look cool. I think because you look comfortable and relaxed. I was discussing this with some mates the other day. One of our bike club members went to a wedding in a victorian style long jacket wearing a man bun and a cravatte totally unironically. On most people this would have made you look like a pretentious twat but he didn't and I reckon it's because this is what he wanted to wear, he felt smart and comfortable so he looked it.

So yeah, I cut my hair when I'm too hot or it's in the way. I do it myself, a #4 all over then a #2 up the back and sides. I haven't shaved for 25 years because I don't want to. I'm much more interested in how comfortable clothes are (fabric and fit) than what they look like. I have a shower pretty much every day because I don't like going to bed sticky and sweaty. I just use shower gel all over, usually original source. I sometimes drop to every other day in the winter because I'm less sweaty.

I don't use any form of scented anything because I find artificial scents unpleasant and intrusive.

Not really.
I mostly dress for myself, and no longer attempt to disguise my size in shapeless black tents.
And yes, it does make me feel better about myself.

But I have two styles:

(1) indistinguishable, practically invisible little tubby old nanna, for local areas.

and

(2) clothes that are not particularly fashionable, but are stylish in my own quirky way for when I go into London proper.

And red lipstick.

That often causes people to look at me more than once, anyway.

I might have to up my game a bit when going into the office, as one of my friends spotted Johnny Depp filling up at the local Tesco garage this week - wouldn't want to bump into him whilst looking shoddy Shocked

Not that I'm his type, but still ... Laughing
