 |
|
New to the site so be kind . Recently bought a 94 BMW R1100RS. Engine runs like clockwork but tank and bodywork/plastics are trash. I thought it would be an ideal platform for a custom project over the winter.
My question relates to how to add, or a fuel return line to a custom tank. Standard tank (trashed) has integrated fuel pump and return line. If I replace the tank I will need an external fuel pump, but what is the best way to add a return line to a tank that doesn't have a return port?
Alternately, do I need a return line if i find a pump whose output psi matches that of the fuel regulator output?
Cheers for any help. |

I read it uses EFi so I believe that means a return is required. Why not try and find a non-trashed tank? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

I know bugger all about fuel injection but I do know classic British motorcycles often have two fuel taps, one each side of the tank. It's usually because the frame tunnel effectively splits the tank in half. Two taps allow you to use all the fuel in the tank (so effectively one tap on for "main" which leaves one side of the tank below the tunnel full of fuel, both on for reserve).
So a tank designed for a classic brit may well have two fuel spigots on it. Almost certainly 1/4" BSP which you can find a very wide variety of fittings for.
Facet solid state fuel pumps are good. Would recommend.
Another one you could look at is a tank for one of the EFI enfield models which are already set up for an in-tank fuel pump. Fairly big aftermarket in tastelessly custom fuel tanks for them. Because India. Also cheap if you don't mind waiting for one coming from India (risk of duty to pay, only supposed to be 4% on vehicle parts from India but good luck telling that to the customs fee racketeers agents). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

I only glanced at it but it sounds like a similar scenario. ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
