Ive owned my 2015 R3 for about a month now. Everything on the bike has been an absolute dream but recently it seems to have developed a small vibration.

The vibration is nothing too serious but its at a point where its tickling my feet after a longer ride. The bike has a decent amount of km on it (40,000km).

I originally noticed it in the footpegs but I can defintely feel it in the handlebars and tank too. The vibrations are the worst at about 5k - 7k rpms and similar in all gears.

Ive eliminated that its...

Tires - no vibration while clutch is in and moving

Chain - just serviced and vibration still happens when clutch in and revved up

Exhaust - vibration is felt up to the handlebars and brackets have been tightened on exhaust fittings.

Would it could be...

Loose engine mounting bolts? Ive checked the two main ones and they dont seem loose.

Spark plugs? Haven't checked

Valves? Ive read these should be adjusted everyone 20000km and the bike just rolled over to 40000km.

Has anyone has a similar experience? Ive been looking at forums up and down trying to find an answer but havent had any luck. Ive read nothing but good things about these bikes and engines so im really having a hard time thinking its something serious internal with the bike.

Any sort of help or advice is appreciated, thanks!

Have you got a paddock stand? Might be easier to diagnose.

40 thousand kilometres, that's a fair amount for a small bike. You might want to search for what's expected to wear out for it's age/mileage rather than specifically looking for vibration issues.

Its 2.5k miles a year, nothing really like my 125 did 20k miles a year. But the vibration is gonna be engine related.

Most likely from your description, but maybe in a "test environment" you can narrow down top-end, bottom-end, gearbox, etc. before you take the engine out for a strip down Smile

Is it related to revs or roadspeed?

Revs suggests something engine related. Roadspeed suggests something drivetrain or chassis related.

My first thought was a loose engine bolt or cracked engine mounting. So I'd check the bolts are tight. Sometimes a cracked/worn/damaged mount becomes obvious if you jack up under the engine and look for odd movement.

Sometimes a mount settles in an odd place. I've seen vibes disappear entirely after loosening then re-tightening all the engine mounts.

I have had a problem similar to yours on my BMW G310R. I purchased the bike nearly new in January, 2024. Once through the break-in period I experienced an annoying vibration from about 7500rpm up to redline 10000rpm. The buzzy nature of the bike in the higher reaches of the rev range was especially noticeable in the hand grips, footpegs, and mirrors. It really put a damper on my enjoyment of the bike.

Internet chatter on the G310 Forum suggested a front sprocket change could have a positive effect on the vibrations. At 771 miles, I replaced the stock 16T front sprocket with a 17T sprocket sourced off Amazon. Relief was immediate; I can honestly say that the problem is gone. The upgrade cost me less than $20 and is the best cost/benefit modification I have done to the bike during my ownership. Before you dive into further diagnosis of the vibrations on your R3, you might try a new front sprocket. It is inexpensive and really did the trick for me.

Pah. You should've seen my big bullet when the main frame bolt worked loose. There's a sort of "Jesus" bolt on the iron barrel bullets, the engine's a stressed member and there's a big 3/4" bolt that you have to spring the frame together to insert. It also holds the rear engine mounts and supports the gearbox. If you took it out, the frame would spring apart and the engine would fall down.
