Another victory for Our Democracyâ„¢

Connolly declared president of Ireland after landslide win

Buried in all the fluff, the actual meat:

    * 3.6 million registered voters
    * less than half voted (1.6 million)
    * 1.4 million valid votes
    * 900,000 for the winner
    * 200,000 spoiled ballots

Classic strategy: give the electorate with no real choice, lean into apathy and you get a president voted in by only 25% of the people. If the Irish are anything like us then ~15% of the population are Far-Left lunatics. That equates to a president only needing ~400,000 genuine votes (10% of the electorate). Landslides are easy Wink

Couple of notes: proportional representation, 2nd preference votes, etc. become less relevant when you reduce the number of candidates. The media also bill Connolly as an "anti-establishment" figure which is an outright lie. You only get on the ballot paper if the establishment approves your candidacy as evidenced by Conor McGregor dropping out.

The Irish presidential post is mostly ceremonial, a figurehead for the aspirations of the Irish people:

Catherine Connolly wrote:
I will be a voice for peace, a voice that builds on our policy of neutrality, a voice that articulates the existential threat posed by climate change, and a voice that recognises the tremendous work being done the length and breadth of the country.

The Irish are fucked.

Fcuk me....From that article.

The hotel is now by far the largest of Ireland's 320 so called International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centres which house around 32,500 asylum seekers or refugees across Ireland.

There's only 5 million people in Eire anyway, if the costs are anything like what the UK pays to house these cvnts I'm amazed they can afford it.

Someone somewhere is making a lot of money from all of this at the expense of the everyday person.
Following the money leads to the reason.
