Thinking

This year I bought and sold an MZ Skorpion, thought I'd like the torque the lightness, and the 'big single' experience.

I didn't - too vibey, ponderous handling (IMO) and a bit, well slow.

I'm now thinking about a Shiver 750 GT.. this to go longer distance in modest comfort. but with some decent poke (I hope).

There's on on ebay (well there's a few) at 2k which seller says runs lumpy at low rpm.. but I've read this is a thing with these and could be just a duff o2 sensor.

Would I be courting disaster? What else is there in the 80-100 hp range, lightweight 'sports tourer' to consider? I'm getting old(er) and weak(er) and teh FZ is a fucker to pick up if ever dropped.

O2 sensors don't usually cost much and AFAIK are pretty generic. The connector is the only thing that really changes. Do you want an adventure or something you can use immediately?

I'll never not be a fan of the CP2 engine (Yamaha MT07, XSR, Tracer, Tenere, R7) bit less power than you specified but light bikes, easy going.

What about a yahama TRX. The paralell twin that thinks it's a V-twin?

The nominal weight of 175kg is likely to be 200kg in real life. That seems to be a decent weight for a bike putting out 100bhp. Like A100man’s FZS600 Fazer it also has high, wide bars and something to grip onto around the tailpiece so it should be easier than a sportsbike to lever up onto its tyres.

Most ‘how to live a motorcycle’ videos on YouTube start with a fallen Harley or BMW still propped up at 45 degrees on footboards, sticky-out cylinders or panniers.

Something easier to lift but still making 80-100 bhp seems unlikely to me. I’ve still got the horn for a Fantic 500 Caballero Rally (37 bhp single, 157 kg alleged) for a light, fun, utilitarian bike I could probably lift in this, my impending dotage. I’m still riding an R1 in denial though.

I did have an FZS600 20 years ago, but the FZ is a weighty old school 750 about 225 wet I think. The attraction of the Shiver being about 20kg less .. I read that aftermarket pipes can help.
Ducati ST4 might fit the bill but that belt thing nags..)

Always fancied one - getting rare now and not really much of a touring modus. The Skorpion had a TRX headlight at least Wink

Ducati multistrada 1000s.

Stupid and weird-looking in many ways. But you can't see them when your riding them.

My mate rides one, he's a fastasfuck club racer and he's got loads of bikes he could take when we go on camping runs in the highlands. R1, oil boiler GSXR1100, ER6 among others. He takes the Ducati.

I keep trying to get him to paint it up like R2D2.

Street Triple's can be picked up relatively cheap these days. Nice and light with plenty power.
