Posted: 23:55 - 14 Dec 2025 Post subject: Changing rear wheel vexation |
 |
|
Changed the rear tyre on the Triple today. Puncture at 4.6k, so at least it was near the end of its life and not the start. Tried repairing several times, but that's another post. Anyway, it was lot easier now that a) now i can bolt the tyre changer directly to the workshop floor, and b) i finally bought a bead seater.

Until now, i've been bolting it to a paving slab which wasn't ideal, and as i didn't want studs sticking out of the floor when not using it, i used drop in anchors so it's all flush.
And the bead seater, wow. What a tool! And by that i mean me for taking this long to get one. Firing out 9 litres of air in an instant going at 700mph is surprisingly violent and very much fun. I made sure i got the button press type too, not the handle, as it's more efficient and, it feels more like a gun

So while all that was easy and quick, what was a lot harder was getting the bloody wheel back on again. Man. I just couldn't get it between the swingarm and caliper without that sodding bush falling out, trying to line it up with the brake bracket. Getting darker and harder to see all the time which didn't help. It's never been this difficult before, usually it's a bit of a pain, but this was so much longer. With an embarrasing amount of swearing and the kind help of the lodger i managed to sort it in the end, but i can't help thinking there's got to be a trick to this that i'm missing.
