Removing Datatools

I picked up a trident in May after a long break from bikes and I've had to replace the bloody battery twice already due to drain with the ignition off.

Draw with ignition off is 35mA - should be like 3. I've disconnected bits and bobs but the draws still there, guessing the Datatools internal charge circuit has fried or something.

Planned to rip it out the other day as I don't pay for it anyway (I know when my bikes been nicked because it won't be there anymore), but thought I should probably check its not going to brick the bike or set the alarm off first.

Anyone done it before? Do I need one of those weird bypass plugs off eBay or anything?

Is it a Datatool System 3? I’ve successfully removed one after it stopped responding. If you know the right 2x2 terminals to bypass with wire it’s the same effort as using a bypass plug (‘twas a doddle), but cheaper. I’ll post more if it is a System 3. They must be ancient now anyway (batteries last about 12 years) so no harm in revealing it.

After removing I still had a parasitic drain which turned out to be from what remained of the alarm loom, and easily fixed by removing the in-line fuse.

Interesting about the bypass wires though - I take it if you remove them without the bypass it just immobilises the bike then?

Can't find anything online (understandably), I'll give Datatool a bell and see what the score is I think.

The information is available online and it’s not like it would help a thief take a bike, it needs an hour or so in the workshop to complete, but I’m still reticent about passing it on widely, hence the PM.

Someone in the comments has done the same with a Veto so it might work on yours. I discarded the alarm housing (need a ‘security Torx’ to open up the alarm) and was left with two plugs which I bypassed with wire, soldered them in for security, then wrapped them in tape and stuffed them out of the way. Exactly like not having an alarm or immobiliser, although as I said, I later removed the in-line fuse to stop a parasitic drain. I had assumed it had to stay in place, but no. Good luck!
