It sure made my Norwegian 01 NSR a lot faster without any other modification but "crash" told me I would have to change jet in carb. or else the piston etc. would seize. I don't really understand why because the change of exhaust shouldn,t change the combustion?(or does it in a 2 stroke?)
Anyway! I have just taken the bike out from the garage after the winter(still snow in Norway but the road was clear on friday) and checked spark plug and piston top(as much as visible) and could not see anything wrong.
Alltough. I know the damage usually starts on the edge.

Hi

You should carefully check the bike is not running lean. Yes and exhaust can affect the mixture required, both on a 4 stroke and a 2 stroke. 2 strokes tend to utilise the petrol to help cool the piston. Run lean and the engine can seize (and you will see nothing of this through the spark plug hole). You are getting confused with detonation, and that will happen so quick that you would not even have a chance to shut the throttle, let alone lay the bike up over winter!

All the best

Keith
