Hiya,
I just got off the phone with a local mechanic who has been looking over my bike for me (It's been fouling it's plug and smoking a lot). Anyway, he says that the oil pump is stuck on full, hence the smoke and fouling. Fair D says I, makes sense.
So the question - He wants about £140 to replace it. Reasonable of rip off?
Cheers Very Happy

Well you need to find out the cost of a replacement pump, the seals will have to be replaced as well, probably some bearings in there as well?

A new oil pump for the NSR125 is £50, probably another £20 for the other small bits. Add to that 1-2 hours of labour charges and you are looking at a fair amount of cash Smile

He's having a laugh for £140, you can get a second hand one of ebay for £5-20, they are very easy to fit and you shouldn't have to replace the small gasket behind it if you're careful. If you don't know what to do just get a haynes manual for it and that will show you how. It's only about a 15 minute job max.

15 min + Bleeding the oil lines. There are simple pumps, so it shouldnt be too hard to whip it apart, but at the cost a a 2nd hand one there isn't much point.

Bloody hell, I thought it sounded a little steep but it sounds like I was being well and truly taken up the arse Shocked Time to get reading the Haynes I think.
Incidentally, they said that the pump itself was 80 some odd quid, then a couple of hours labour...
Cheers all for the information Thumbs Up
