Well it was pretty much entirely my fault - filtering down the outside of traffic light queue, up alongside a big flatbed as the lights change, so I slow down to tuck in behind him, but not enough so as he goes round a parked car i clip my wing mirror on the truck side. Far as I know this turned me off the right where i hit the front wing of a slow moving car, and and up on the floor.
Elbow hurts, heads a bit achy but mainly from the stress and adrenaline etc., and the bike isn't TOO bad (probably be posting asking for some advice on repairing bits of that in a few days) but the front wing of the car was fairly heavily dented and scuffed, and the indicator took a hit. The car driver seemed quite keen to settle without using the insurance companies (which was perhaps a bit worrying), but I don't know what I'm doing here really. ABout to check through the insurance policy, but what should i be looking at doing here, do I need to inform the insurance company (they really know anyway as my recovery truck came from them) and what is the deal with settling without using the insurance. Bit annoyed that the truck didn't stop at all, guess he probably wouldn't have noticed though :s
Oh, and bugger!

Rich

Hope your alright matey, not too sure eh?! Thumbs Up

As for settling without insurance, when I used to work in the Solicitors doing that sort of stuff the insurance companies were normally fine if their policyholder wanted to settle privately. The way I'd probably go about it is get the other party to get two estimates and see how much it'll cost you and then weigh up if it would be cheaper going through your insurance or settle yourself. Cost of damage normally depends on the make of the other car so if its some expensive sh*t like a porsche expect the bill to be a lot... Rolling Eyes Oh yeah and there might be something in your contract where you have to let your insurance company know in any case so I'd check over that carefully.

Hi

Get him to price up the repairs. Then decide. If it is cheap then I would say pay for it yourself but make sure any receipt you give / get has words to the effect of "full and final settlement" on it.

All the best

Keith

Make sure he tells the places he goes for the quotes that it is not for an insurance job but being payed for privatley, the quote will be a lot lower because they all take the piss with insurance repairs.

Thanks guys, 'luckily' it is a crappy old citroen zx so fingers crossed it won't be too much for the parts at least, just expensive for the work and respray etc.
I'll see what he says over the weekend, if I do have to go through insurance company how much is it likely to put up the price? (currently about £250, tpft)
Feels like I've pulled just about every muscle down the right hand side of my body, so much fun Laughing

Cheers,
Rich
