I am currently oin working on passing my test at the age of 17 which means i am only allowed to ride a bike of up to 33bhp once I have done this. As I see it i have several otions, 1. buy a 250 and ride that for a 2 years, 2. a 400 restricted or a 600 restricted, which is the better idea both financially physically, would i be able to ride a large bike?

jaypee, im in a similar situation (except im 20), im going for a sports 400 restricted, but in truth, i plan to derestrict it which is technically illegal but highly unlikely to be cared about.

Not much price difference between a 33bhp 250/125 and a 400.

From my admitedly limited experience there is no reason why you cant (with reasonable caution) jump onto a 400 from a 125 learner and ride it away.

But dont take anything I say as gospel cus im a newbie.

If you plan on keeping the bike restricted then you are best off getting a bike which is close to 33bhp as standard. Bigger the engine the less well it takes to the restriction, you can get bikes which are 33bhp as standard or smaller bikes like 250's (not two stroke ones) will take it okay.

You will be able to ride a 600cc when it's 33bhp, it won't take it well and wasn't designed to be running like that.
