Ah, how the pheasants mind works...

"oh look, a large mass moving quickly towards me, maybe if i run infront of it everything will be okay"

this spurt of super intelligence from the bird resulted in it staggering around before coming to a rest laying down with its neck seemingly the only part of its body able to move, so I called my girlfriends dad and he brought a spade out (it was near his house) and proceded with a mercy killing...

Moral of the story: Never undestimate the EXTREME lack of intelligence found in the pheasant species.

I hope you kept it for roast afterwards! The use of a spade is a bit over the top though, everyone should know how to wring a bird's neck. They have a tendency to fly under cars where I live, and knock themselves out on the underbody or the front lower bodywork. A (baby?) rabbit I happened upon the other day had the good sense to move out of the way however.
