When you buy a motorcycle it normally has a center stand.
(UNLESS it's a trials bike or anything over 750CC) Rolling Eyes

Well the new CBF range from honda is a bit of a giggle,
the center stand is now an "OPTIONAL EXTRA" Shocked

Now a rack and top box is an optional extra but a center
stand?? WTF???

I hate the idea of going into a shop and asking for the
center stand to be fitted.

IS THIS A NEW TREND?? Will other companies do the same?

Where will it all end??

hmm, i didnt know hondas came with a centre stand, my mates got a 1990 (ish) 125 road bike but it has no center stand...

but making it an optional extra will probably give honda a lil bit more of your hard earned cash

Erm, most sports bikes don't have center stands.
I don't think many of the 'tektro' or whatever you want to call them do either. I didn't think the hornet did, which I presumed the CBF was derived from.

Loads of bikes come with no centre stand, especially sports bikes. I'm on my fourth bike and none of them has had one.

Most bikes other than BMW's etc don't come with centre stands as most people don't want them, seems quite logical to me.

Hi

A centre stand adds weight and cost, and some people don't want them. Plenty of sports bikes don't have them now, but they are very useful. Had to take mine off the Bandit when I fitted the Akrapovic which is a pain.

All the best

Keith

Mine has a center stand as standard. No side stand though. The Nsr does not.

They do add weight but not exactly much weight is it in the grand scheme of things. Laughing

Most people dislike them because they take a chunck out of your ground clearance, and as Keith said they won't fit on with some exhausts.

Paddock stand is useless for doing the rear suspension linkages, unlike a centre stand.

All the best

Both my Kawa's had their center stand missing, but that was because they had replacement zausts. I've since fitted a center stand to one, it's an original stand with a small mod to make it rest against the replacement zaust when not in use.

My CBR had a centre stand. Had to take if off when I downgeared it though, as the chain now sits lower and would have caught on it.

It was bloody useful - saying 'use a paddock stand' is all very well when you're at home. Used to park it on the centre stand cos it was much harder to knock over (parking between cars) or when I was on the pavement cos it takes up less space when it's not leaning over.

Ladies ans gentlemen of the jury, I would like to add to the case against the useless weighty ground clearance reducing centrestand by saying simply two words:

Abba Stand.

The prosecution rests. Smile

The defence counters with the point that an Abba stand is still not convenient to carry around with you when 'out and about'.

The prosecution has clearly not read the preceeding statements when he persists in referring to a centre stand as "useless".

Center stands have only ever been any use to me when I was pleased to find one fitted to the bike that I had to lift onto one.
That was on my CBT.
Since then they prove to be little except 5 pounds+ of dead weight, and unsightly too.
Paddock stand. Basic maintenance equipment.

There are other scenarios than just maintenance you know.

I was out once and had to run over a pile of glass. Pulled over, stuck it on the centre stand and went round the back tyre checking it. Balance point is such that it was easy to lift the forks and get the front wheel off the ground to check that and pull massive bit of glass out of tyre. Like to see you manage that by yourself with a sidestand, would have meant lots of rolling back and forward.

Had both wheels out the bike using only the centre stand, just put some weight on the back seat to balance it and bob's your uncle.

Centre stands are useful, especially if you do bike things by yourself.

If you've not got a paddock stand with you, and you've not got a centre stand, how do you maintain your chain, especially if you're on tour or something? That is unless you're going to wheel it forwards every six inches? Confused I like being able to take the front wheel off just by putting the bike on the centre stand and putting a weight of some description on the luggage carrier. Thumbs Up Smile
