Hiya all,
I had my first spill tonight, in the most ridiculous of situations. On the way home from work I decided to take a detour through a scenic route (since it was Friday). Lovely ride back from malton to york thru some traditional english country side......
Unfortunately I went straight past my turning. Being the quick thinking gadge that I am I decidedto pull over and do a U-turn. I pick a nice spot to pull over, indicated, did a life saver, then pull over to a grass verge and began to brake......At this point whilst doing below 10mp, the front wheel locked, then slipped on a huge patch o' gravel and I got launched over the handle bars into a grassy patch. Believe it or not I landed in such a way that I actually did a proper roll with me nearly landing on my feet!
I was absolutely fine, not a mark or bruise (all hail armoured leather) but my poor NSR has been, well, tarnished
. THere is not any real damaged but part of the fairing has had the paint work scrapped right off, along with a tiny section of Vinyl . On a positive note my indicator had came of but due to a clever design on hondas behalf, the are mounted onto a rubber mounting so it had simply pulled off. I was able to screw it back on when I got in!
Anyway the little crash n tumble made me a lot more nervous finishing my journey, as I thought I was gonna launch every time I braked!
I would really appreciate any advice from anyone on how I could restore my fairing back to its former glory.....Is the lower red section from the fairing located under the left handle bar thats scuffed, so any suggestons on how to fix it would be great.

You could probably polish the worst of the scuffing out using T-cut. It won't work where you have gone right through the paint but should make things look a bit tidier round the edges. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Wet and dry is like black sandpaper but with a cloth backing, as the name suggests, you can use it wet which reduces the abrasiveness of the paper and gives a smoother finish. You would want to use VERY fine grit stuff. You are probably better off with...
T-cut, a polishing fluid in a square red tin (most garages and car spares shops sell it) that removes a very thin layer of the paint and polishes off the scratches...you use it for polishing out non-full thickness scratches and to rejuvinate a faded or marked paint-job. Rub firmly in small circles on a soft cloth, wipe afterwards and apply a coat of wax polish over the top. It would tidy up the edges if nothing else.
EDIT: Don't use T-cut on stickers/decals, it smears the colour about. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Wet and dry is like sand paper but finer grades. T cut is a polish used to remove small scratches.
Speak to a Honda dealer about getting the paints if you want to repair them, but from what you've said of it being the size of a 50p I would just wet and dry it smooth again and leave it at that or just find a fairly good match in Halfords and use that.
It won't affect the value that much, it's a 125 learner bike they do get dropped or crashed by most owners when being used by learners. At 10mph the damage won't be much other than a small scuff mark as you said so it really wouldn't be worth forking out if you can find someone selling a fairing panel with no damage (will be expensive as they're not in huge supply as they do get damaged a bit) over tiny damage like that from a low speed drop . |
