I have been hanging off my bike like a monkey going around roundabouts and sharp bends for hours and hours with my knee pointing out so far I swear my groin is going to be killing me for the next few days Embarassed but the closest I come to getting my knee down is when I would feel like the bike just wants to fall on it's side and then quickly stand it back up again Shocked so after literally hundreds of passes I am coming to believe it could be the suspension set up or tyre profile? could the bike be too high up and not be possible for me to touch the ground with my knee? what if I were to change my wheels to a set of 16 inch items instead of 17 inch rims? I feel an extra inch would bring me close enough to get my knee down or maybe slide the forks up through the yokes to lower the front and possibly lower the rear to make it closer to the ground ? I now have knee down fever and it is eating me up not being able to do it properly Evil or Very Mad please help me knee down gods I know it is a hugely talked about topic and you all are probably sick of seeing the same questions but I have read all there is to be read on this site about it and I swear this will be my last question about getting me knee down Very Happy until next year when I am asking how to get my elbow down Wink okay okay kidding Very Happy

I think different people have their own methods of gettin their knee down. I personally shift my arse to the direction I want to go, then lean over and begin to counter steer, then to assist bringing the bike back up i transfer my weight to the opposite side and weight the footpeg.

Get someone to go with you and take some photos, you can then see the position/lean of the bike and where your body is positions.

You should be able to get your need down on most/if not all bikes. So starting to change the wheel size etc is a waste of time. Good luck and you'll love doing it once you've got the knack!

Lend your bike to someone who can get their knee down, and watch them. If they can do it (and they're not a 7ft stick insect) then you'll know it's not the bike.

After an accident I had, I'd totally bottle leaning right over in corners, as I'd always think the bike was going to slip out from under me. I swapped bikes with a guy I knew was a good rider and followed him, watching how my bike handled with a confident rider on it.

Needless to say he cranked the bike way further than I had done, so at that point my confidence in the bike grew - then it was a case of trusting the bike just that little more each time. I never did reach the angle he managed to get the bike over to, but I knew it was down to my own confidence, rather than the bike setup.

Not pushing the bike to it's limits did save my arse a few times though, turning an "oh fuck" moment into a "how the hell did I get round that?" moment Smile

You can most certianly get your knee down on a ZX6RR

https://www.aperusse.com/PHOTO/ZX6RR.jpg

So don't go altering your bike.

It just takes practice, lots of practice and then some more practice... it won't happen overnight... (just don't practice too much else you'll fall off)

It sounds like the bike is not leant over far enough, best thing is to get someone to go with you to either take photos so you can see how far leant over the bike is, or if they can do kneedown themselves then they should be able to pick up on what you're not doing right. I wouldn't start changing your bike setup just because it might make you be able to get your kneedown as it will have other implications if you change things.

When learning and trying to get kneedown most people are thinking that they are hanging off as much as they could be and the bike is leant over as far as possible. But after someone watching them and telling them that it can be leant over more or they could hang off more they are then able to kneedown. Shift your arse nearly right off the seat so you are hanging off lots. Don't think about counter steering as it is something you are already doing when going round corners.

So if you can get someone to come and watch to take some photos you can then see what you're doing right and wrong. Thumbs Up

As long as you're suspension is not set up very wrong and you've got the right tyres for the bike, you should be able to get it down without needing to do anything radical to your bike. It sounds like you might be in the wrong position on the bike, try getting your weight forward and down as opposed to out to the side.

Does your bike have particulary wide tyres? The wheels on my FZR are a little more narrow than most bikes, rear is only 140-150. Maybe that affects your ability to get it over.

No, skill, experience and practice is what is affecting the ability to get it over..

No point changing your bike set up, but I'm sure if you know someone who can KD they could offer you some pointers. Who am I to talk though, as I havn't achieved the ultimate goal either. Maybe when I get these velcro pads for my leathers....
