This is a bit of a long shot question... My bikes going in for repair tommorow, the kickstart is jammed in the down position so I can't start it I just wondered on average how long do garages keep bikes?
I know this can vary a great deal depending on if they've got the right parts to hand but I'm desperate to ride again Mad
ATM I'm preying it's not a seized engine.

All I can say is, they won't keep it any longer than they really have to. It's in their best interest to make room in thier workshop for something else.
Hope it's nothing to serious. Confused

Overall it is a case of how long is a piece of string, but assuming it's nothing too complicated and they're able to get the parts reasonably quickly then you should have the bike within a fortnight; a few days before they're able to start working on it, a few days to wait for the parts to arrive then a few days (dependant on what needs doing) for the parts to be able to be fitted. It also depends lots of what type of garage you've taken it to and I've taken my bike in for work at a small local shop and they've dragged their feet and I've had it in at a main big stream dealer who was even worse so really it depends on the place you take it but big Honda type places should be quite quick.

If its something simple and they can get the part in quickly then you could have it back in a few days but you can't count on it.

A knackerd kickstarter isnt much of a job to an expirence mechanic.. The only possability for delay is in if they cannot simpley fix what you have given them and need to get new parts. Ordering parts is just down to luck. sometimes it takes a few hours, sometimes months :S

In the grand scheme of things fixing a kickstarter is one of the easier jobs a mechanic could be given.

Most likely a broken kickstart return spring. Is the kickstar jammed solid in the down position, or does it go down and need to be pulled back up manually?

If it a broken kickstart return spring, its a case of side panel off, kickstart gear off, spring out, new spring in, kickstart gear back on, side panel and assorted levers and cables back on.

Will probably be done with an oil change as well.

If they get a midday parts delivery it should be done in a day, maybe two.
