Sorry to be a pain but I was hoping somebody could advise me on what oil to use in a RS125? After all the advice telling us guys with two strokes to use a good quality oil I just want to make sure I go for the right one.

I have been looking at Silkolene and Castrol TTS. With the Silkolene there were two synthetic options being either "road" or "race", please say the road one is ok because I don't really want to spend £12 on 1litre of oil!

Additionally are there any cost-savings in buying in bulk online?

I used a £8 a litre oil that was fully synthetic and was reccomended by someone who raced 125's. It was made by motul, and came in a red grade. Made less smoke than the silkolene stuff too!

I just use the Castrol TTS. At about a tenner a bottle. Having said that, it lasts long enough for the price to not be too prohibitive Thumbs Up

Motul 600 - genius stuff. £10 a litre, fully synthetic. Smells like bananas!

Agreed, ran mine on it from the day I bought the bike, runs perfect on it.

Only its £8 a litre from my local dealership and I always thaught it smelt like bubble gum. Laughing

Lol Keith - I buy it from my dealer, rip-off!

I think it's a new formula, the last bottle I bought didn't smell bananary.

Ian, so long as the 2T engine oil you buy says 'Fully-Synthetic' on it then it should work fine. If it only says Synthetic, or synthetic mix, ie, it doesn't say Fully then don't buy it...

Also, it must be for Injector systems, I'm guessing the confusion with the Silkolene comes about because you're looking at the Pro2 bottle aswell? If so that's for Pre-mix systems only where you mix it in the petrol tank, and it doesn't work well in Injector systems as it's often too thick.

There's lots of brands out there, but the main 3 seem to be; Silkolene Comp2 Plus, Castrol R2 or TTS (Not Super TT though as it isn't fully-synth so beware of that!) and Motul 600! But Shell do their own 2T oils, and there's Rock Oil and many others, the best thing I'd say you can do is to just use the stuff that your nearest stockist sells as that will be the easiest to get hold of and will save you travelling for those days when you're running low as you forgot to fill up or put it off for some reason - we all do it usually!

DO NOT EVER BE TEMPTED TO PREMIX THE OIL ON AN INJECTOR MACHINE. This causes lean running that melts pistons.

Little nugget for you.

Are you sure? It will foul the spark plugs, rather than running lean. The oil will still be auto-injected between 1:50 at low speeds to 1:20 at high speeds, which will be fine. Add 1:20 to that, and you end up with 1:10 at high speeds (very bad) and a little richer than 1:20 at low speeds (also really too rich). Hence you'd constantly be fouling spark plugs with oil.

If you are running on pre-mix rather than using the autolube, always run at 1:20. Whilst this is really too rich at low engine speeds, it's the right mix at high engine speeds, so your piston/ ports won't melt.

Filled my petrol tank up with 4 litres of 2 stroke oil yesterday Shocked
lucky for me it was only cheap stuff and the whole 5 litres cost me £8, i simple filled up rest of tank with petrol and it seemed to have diluted the oil and worked fine, the oil was so watery anyway.

Just smoked a lot, a hell of a lot!

So running 1:20 oil to petrol ratio you have reduced the amount of petrol by 5% (at least, considering the oil will flow more slowly through the jets).

All the best
