A mate asked me today as he just got done for speeding (again) and is close to loosing his licence, it was one of those copers hiding round a corner with a laser gun. Will something like road angel work for a bike or is there a bike alternative to it.

Cheers.

[STATE=OBVIOUS]
There's a device out that fits on the right hand grip which is dead useful for these sorts of situations...

@bazza - yeah, 'cos the police ONLY position themselves at areas of high danger where exceeding the posted limit would contribute to the danger....don't they....

You can get the Bel 966R rader & laser detectors specfically to fit bikes.

I had one of these earlier in the year fitted to my bike and wasn't that impressed by it. It's not big at all and all there is to let you know it's detected something is a small flashing LED so not exactly going to grab your attention most of the time. Wouldn't bother buying one again unless someone made one which was linked up to headphones or similar as the flashing LED's weren't useful as you couldn't see them.

Gee, well, if "he just got done for speeding (again) and is close to loosing his licence" then I guess spending a shitload of money to protect himself from an inability Get The Fucking Message(tm) would be his only solution.

Why is it you types only jump out of the woodwork when someone points out that the obvious solution to not getting done for speeding is (well, duh!) not to speed?

Yes, everyone does it - but unless you can rally enough support to get the law changed, it's going to stay illegal and no amount of whinging, pissing and moaning (or karma-bashing Middle Finger ) is going to change the fact.

Get the fuck over it.

fair comment Laughing Thumbs Up

The government are looking to change the ways that speeding fines are dealt with - supposedly reflecting the 'less than serious' nature of only being a few mph over the limit...by operating some kind of sliding scale of fines etc - only , all they're actually doing is opening up the fine-ability of any speeding indescretion - meaning that more fines (read revenue) will be imposed than ever before....

I've told bazza's nurse to administer more pills Thumbs Up

So far I've only ever cracked my throttle open on roads where I know there is nowhere for cop cars to park, like on a dual carriage way with embankments. Plus no side roads there either. Thumbs Up

Ste, that radar detector. Was the useless LED your only gripe? did it work fine otherwise? I ask as a simple relay and bright light on your handlebars would of sorted that.

I think the (gov't) perception is that if they keep fining and criminalising speeders at current levels, they'll end up with a fuel-tax stylee backlash with more Gatsos being given the Soweto necklace as a result. Hence the (minor) climbdown and sliding scale approach.

Of course, in 10 year's time only bikers and Richard Branson will be able to afford petrol anyway... Thumbs Up

My lady just got given an S4 Neo detector thing (She's got 6 points on her licence). It has a headphone socket, and instructions on it's use with a motorbike. Not wired it up to the bike yet, but played with it in the car for a little way and it seems OK. She's gone to Manc. and back with it today, so that'll be more of a test I think.

Yup, didn't use it for that long, was never saved from a speeding ticket by it, but also never really noticed the LED lights unless I was specifically looking at them when going past a gatso etc. to see if it worked then, which it did.

There really isn't a need to just tell him to slow down, I'm quite sure that he is aware of the simplest way not to get a speeding ticket is not to speed. He was just asking about rader detectors to see if they're any good as the next best method to not get a speeding ticket is not to get caught, which is what a detector is for. Mr. Green

Thanks that's very helpful, does the kit come with that LED cluster or do you have to order it seperately.

I decided I didn't want to mount the Road Angel™ where it was exposed to the elements or use the earpiece, so I designed and built the remote alert indicator as shown in the pictures.

This isn't mine btw but thought it would be useful, I guess you could buy an LED unit np
