Well, after my recent incident when I was caught on a bike I shouldn't have been on (see here for details) I've been patiently awaiting my punishment.

And waiting.

...

And waiting...

...

It's been just over a month now since it happened and I admitted I'd been a pillock to the Police, however I've not heard a single thing yet. I was wondering, have the Police ever forgotten about you, or just let you off after you've handed your details in?

I'm curious because after talking to some mates they've been in similar circumstances awaiting fate to punish them duely, only to have nothing ever happen from it.

So, ever been forgotten about? Ever get away with it?

Did they actually say they were going to penalise you? Confused

One time I was stopped by the Police and they took my Number Plate and Driving Licence number, I was expecting to hear from them but didn't. Smile

i got caught with no L plates and a mate on the back before i did my test, but said i thought that i could be doing that and just needed plates for the cbt. but because it was my first f*ck up they sent me a letter about 5 weeks after saying they were going no further, been legal ever since.

i'd say don't get your hopes up because most likely they won't forget, and if i was you just carry on sh$tting your pants

I kinda got forgotten - more like slipped through a hole in the paperwork.

I'd been done for speeding (in my car) but as I was due to take my bike test that week I asked if I could have my licence back quickly. They wrote the 3 points on the licence, but when I passed and sent it off it came back with the new entitlement but no points Smile

If it is a case to be held infront of a magistrate, the CPS has 6 months to present it's evidence to the court. The court will then issue a court date after that.

If it's an offence that would be heard infront of a judge; such as dangerous driving, there's no limit, but in my case it seems to have gone beyond a 'reasonable' time.

I haven't been so lucky with the case involving the car accident adn got a court date after about two months for that.

Bloody lucky tho.

I was involved in an accident with a bike after having only been driving six weeks. Confused I was in a car at the time. I was informed at the time, that they would be pursuing a charge of driving without due care and attention.

I waited, and waited and waited. I really thought I'd got away with it.

Two days before the six months were up, I get a court letter. The day before christmas eve.

Which was nice. Shocked

Incase you were wondering, the case was thrown out of court.

My brother left the scene of an accident (nowt serious, just wing mirrors clipping) and had the police turn up at his house that night to charge him and to tell him that it would go to the CPS to decide whether to prosecute.

3 months later, he got a letter through the post telling him that he was to appear at the magistrate's court the next week.

I got away with it twice.
The first was 9 may 2000, about 9PM, I was driving my XR2i along a 30mph road drinking Stella, edited. A T5 going the other way braked, so I floored it, did 110 (yep, in a 30 zone, past a school) through town, went round a few lefts and rights up a housing estate.
Unfortunately the tired old engine lost oil pressure to the hydraulic tappets and started running on two cylinders. I stopped, turned the engine off and stashed. The T5 soon spotted me, laid flat in the reclined seat, and I was hauled down the cells.
I passed a breath test just, thanks to 2p. I then fell asleep. The arresting officer left without interviewing me, I was released in the morning without formal charge or bail, just a verbal instruction to ring the PC dealing with it, in order to sort it out and get my car out of the compound.
I haven't seen him since. Although I lost the car I considered it a small price.
The second time was less bad, I was riding my DT125R in Flamborough, riding a DTR in the usual DTR way, I rode into my friends drive, got off, removed my helmet and was locking the bike up. I felt a tap on the shoulder.
"Is this your bike sir?". Turned out they'd been trying to catch me with the blue lights on for a mile and half. I was very nice to him after that, and he gave me a producer and left. I don't know what happened but I never handed it in, or heard anything more from them.
The next thing was, the recorded keeper told a friend of mine that he was getting done for failing to stop and driving without due care, and did they know who had the bike. I sold the bike soon after.

A friend has been very lucky and ignored several NIP and nothing has come of them.

He was caught at over 120 mph in MY CAR and got a 28 day ban and nothing of the earlier points.

All he did was ignore the NIP. He kept the car for quite some time as well.

Some people are just lucky I guess

I was in a similar situation, i let a mate have a go on my bike and he got pulled by the old bill. They took our details and said we may be charged for it (he had no insurance for it Mad ). Well heard nothing for ages so we thought we got away with it, then exactly 3 months later a court summons come through Evil or Very Mad .

hermand, sorry mate but it all happened.
I also got an official caution for drink driving boxing day 3 years ago..
Apparently if you score over 35mg (limit) but under 40mg you get a caution.
This is all from Humberside police, the force who didn't do much good with Huntley, so may not apply in all areas.

Did they actually charge you with anything?

As far as going to court goes, when i got done for speeding i got stopped and charged in the June and the court summons in the December, just when i thought i might have got away with it,ain't that always the way.

Banger, you sound quite pleased and proud of the fact that you went 110 past a school, and got away with drink driving etc. I wonder how you will feel when some drunk twonk goes past your kids school at 110 and ploughs into a load of 6 year olds.

personally I think you sound like a complete idiot with no respect for anyone or anything other than yourself...just my opinion mind.

It was 9pm, otherwise it would have been too busy to go that fast. I am pleased/relieved that I still have a licence, I do actually look after it a bit more now. Have you seen the cost of insurance and re-tests? You have to be careful.
Have you never heard of the copper coins trick? I suppose riding bikes you don't get the opportunity to sly them into your mouth. The lad who told me had crashed his birds Nova into a large kerb with police watching, fell out when they opened his door and was allowed to drive on after passing/cheating a breath test.

I do not advocate using this trick, I do not guarantee it will work anymore (may have changed equipment) or for you (different people etc).
If you get done drink driving you deserve to lose your licence. If you run over drunk anyone I like I will tie you to the bull bar of my off roader (SJ413, knobblies, lifted, muddy) and go to Langdale Quest.

I have never been forgotten by the police, a bit of paper always falls through the door before the maximum time period has elapsed, it may just be only a matter of time then again you may get lucky.
