No.
You may ride them on a full licence restricted to 33hp.

On a provisional you may ride a 125 with no more than 15hp.

No, you can ride a 125 on L-plates and nothing more, not even a 126cc.

Nope, don't think so as you are limited to 125cc as a learner with a max of around 14bhp (i forget exactly give me two either way Smile ) Unless your doing a DAS with an approved instructor. Thumbs Up

Are you over 17?
If so, 125cc is your max.
Under 17s can only use 50cc (HAHAHA!)

...Still doesnt stopping them being little bed boi racers with neon underglows and burberry.

Yay, getting my bike back tomorrow. Shame that the first time I get to ride it is on the way home from the garage after spending £250 on repairs Sad

I guess that makes alot of people in your mind one as I can think of very few people with a 125 at 14.6bhp or less (unless they have a 4T 125) and not everyone who rides a 125 has neon's (I don't know anyone personally!) and I find it's more of a scooter thing (though that's stereotyping a little). Many 125 riders are future 'big bikers' and not all of them only have them because they're the fastest thing you can have at 17!

Regarding the licenses and what you can & can't ride it's been pretty much covered in this but here goes;

- at 16 you can ride a 50cc capable of no more than 30mph on a Provisional License with a CBT displaying L plates.
- at 17 you can ride a 125cc with a maximum power of 14.6bhp on a Provisional License with CBT displaying L plates.
- You can also do your A License at 17 which allows you to ride any capacity of bike aslong as it is restricted to 33bhp or less and it's power to weight ratio does not exceed 0.16kW/kg - these restrictions are removed after 2 years and any bike regardless of power is legal to ride (insurance permitting).
- at 21 if you've not done your A License you can do your DAS which means there is no restrictions so any bike is legal to ride, and if you've done your A License before and turn 21 before the restrictors can be removed you can do an Accelerated Access course which then gives you a full unrestricted license.

You certainly used to ba able to ride any sized bike on L-plates providing it had a sidecar attached. I am not sure if this is still the case.

You would struggle to get insurance though.

In all fairness if someone wants to take the risks of riding without a license and/or insurance than it is them taking the risks and not me, so if they want to I'm not really bothered as it will affect them and not me.

Before someone says "but if they crash into you you can't claim as they don't have insurance" any claims where you are not covered by your insurance are covered by the Motor Insurance Bureau who will sign the cheque just the same as a normal insurance company, but they then come knocking on the person who the claim was against asking for their expenses to be paid back.

Yeah, and when they don't cough up or are ordered to pay it off at 10p a month for the rest of their life who pays then....I'll tell you, YOU and ME who sit every year raging about the fact that our bloody insurance had gone up AGAIN!

That is if they bother to stop and tell you who they are at-all.

Not been allowed for quite a while now.

By the way, the limit of power for a learner is 11kw, which translates to 14.6hp. Hence the reason for the strange number chosen for the limit.

All the best

I think that's a statement based on very little. all the 125'ers around my way are either restricted, or the bikes don't make enough power in the first place.
I've got a 2T 125 and it only makes 11bhp anyway.

Well pretty much all people on here who have (or have had) a 125 whilst on a CBT havn't paid much attention to the 14.6bhp law. Also don't know of anyone on here who has put neons on a 125 other than the picture someone posted of an RS125 in the neons thread.

Hi

My personal feeling is that probably 50% of learners are riding 125s of over the relevant hp limit, but then probably 95%+ of "moped" riders are riding bikes capable of more than 30mph.

All the best

Hmmmmmm, bitchy!

Just for the record I'm 27
and waiting to do my Direct access.

Only had the bike 3 months or so, but already fancy something a bit more.......pokey! Wink

But now you mention it,

I don't think I want a bigger bike at all!

Maybe all I needed all along was some neon's and a knife! Rolling Eyes

It wasnt the "wanting a bigger bike" I was commenting on, it was the "Makes you a criminal but stuff it!" part. Especially the "stuff it" part.

Its not big or clever to abuse the law. Even less clever to boast that you do it.
