Hello all,
Thanks for looking,

Here is my situation, i have a bike that was stolen recovered that i have brought back to life, its not yet taxed or m.o.t 'd or am i insured. I want to use it for my cbt as i am quite used to it already. I know that u cannot get tax without insurance but is there any way i could get around it. My cbt company insures you while you are on the road doing your cbt and i can be insured as soon as i have passed but i still wont have tax, is there any way around this??

Thanks for your time and help, any info is much appreciated!

To buy a tax disc you need to be able to show them a valid insurance certificate and an MOT certificate. You can in theory get around the insurance certificate by printing something which looks like one, but it's really not worth it and it will fool the lady behind the counter in the post office but it won't fool a cop.

The CBT place will not be interested in you using your own bike if you don't have tax, an MOT and insurance, end of, no way around it. I doubt that the CBT place has their own insurance that covers you on your own bikes, they'll have insurance which covers you on their bikes but if you want to use your own bike you need to sort your own insurance.

To use your own bike firstly get your bikes MOT'ed, then buy insurance and remember to explain that you will be using it on your CBT course (you're not allowed to ride the bike there you have to sort out another way of getting it there and back again if you don't get your CBT) and then you can buy tax.

Just use the school's bike - it's only like another £20 on top of the normal fee (mine was anyway).

If you talk to a garage and explain the situation, you /might/ be able to get them to tax it for you.

Anyhoo.. I believe you should be able to get insurance before you do your CBT, not 100% sure on this, but I think they only ask about your provisional licence, not your CBT cert.

You can get insurance without a cbt, but you will have to understand it's not valid if you ride without the certificate.

The only way you'll get to use your bike for the cbt is to MOT it, get insurance and get it taxed.

End of story, an easier option might just be to use the school's bike.
