Sorry to quote the Dyson commercial but it's appropriate Very Happy

Lately my Aprilia SR50 (LC, 2000) has been reluctant to accelerate away from anything... Traffic lights, roundabouts, corners, it hates them..

Last week (and ive already kicked myself for this) i ran my scooter til the petrol gauge needle was bent around the bottom of the gauge - so i think the fuel system has been filled full of rubbish from the petrol tank..

Ive checked the plug, and its petrol covered/oily but not golden/brown.. I checked the vacuum hose (vacuum fed petrol system..) and the petrol hose and both are unblocked and dont have any splits in...

So, all i can think it is is the carb - but my Dad insists thats not the problem.. [But everyone else ive spoken to does]...

Does anybody else have any ideas of what it might be? Or can back up that it could be the carb?

Clean the jets and see.

Could be your clutch shoes need adjusting out to bite, assuming this is a scooter.

It is a scooter yeah.. Ill get the carb out in a few minutes and get my neighbour to blow through it with his air compressor..

If this still doesnt help im going to have to do some more research into adjusting the clutch shoes before i try it..

Thanks very much for your help Very Happy

Check the carb first. the tiniest bit of dirt in a jet can cause big probs! Also the carbis a lot easier to check than the clutch.

Does the engine rev right up to normal when you pull away or does it bog down? if it bogs down its almost certainly the carb

Bogs down totally, but seems to rev ok.. I had to stop on a slight upwards hill for a set of traffic light and it just wouldnt pull away at all.. I had to pull right in to the side of the road and thrash it before it'd move...

Ive got the carb off now, and i gave it a quick shake (i dont really know why...) and there was a rattle coming from inside it... I dunno if this means the jet has unscrewed itself or anything... A bigger problem is that i cant undo the carb, the screws are done up too tight and i dont want to round the heads off...

As far as i know the belt and rollers have never been looked at... Im trying to put together some service history for it, the people that owned it before me didnt seem to care much about it..

The rattle is probably the carb float flapping up and down.... Thumbs Up

Hate to break the news to you but it wasnt that.. I had the carb blown out while i was at work, and my dad took it apart and cleaned the jets out... I took it out and it started breaking down again after about a minute.

My Dad took it out and said he thinks its electrical and its breaking down under load - Does anybody have any more ideas? Crying or Very sad
