PostPosted: 22:39 - 19 Oct 2004    Post subject: Interesting conversation with a car policeman Reply with quote

Well, I've been trying to write this for a while but was getting more annoyed but hey let me explain.

I was riding home from work in central London to Essex as usual I was filtering on the A12 near Gants Hill. I came up to a police car at a set of traffic lights. Pulled up on the side of the road was a biker with a police car and a police bike, nothing like over kill as the biker was just standing by his bike.

I was filtering slowly and noted the police car at the traffic lights. The traffic lights were red. I was filtering and noted the gap was slightly small but could easily get through without damaging the vehicle alongside me's mirrors.

As I was next to the police car the door window lowered and I stopped. The policeman inside the car then asked what was I playing at and why can't I wait in the traffic. Why did I have to be first at the lights.

I was dumb struck, a rarity in itself but I did not know what to reply as bikes are allowed to filter. There was no danger to anyone or any cars. What was this idiot talking about. I then wanted a conversation with this idiot and his details as I wanted to complain I decided against it as it was likely to find me doing something wrong with the bike and fine me.

But I was not doing anything wrong. This idiot and he was an idiot as why talk to someone like that I wasn't be an idiot or driving recklessly. I don't think I was doing anything wrong.

Can I have your opinion especially any policemen if I was doing anything wrong cheers.

Cheers

If you'd been doing something wrong, he'd had nicked you - sounds like he wanted to, but couldn't so he vented his frustration by mouthing off.

In this situation i normally go "Yes officer you are right" they normally don't know what to say then. Laughing

I would pay no attention to it, he probaly was just a bit of a dick or maybe he was having a bad day and wanted to annoy someone!

I don't see you were doing anything wrong. Blame it on jealousy on the policeman's part.

Police do get very 'high and mighty' because they have the perceived authority in most situations. Maybe this was a case of abuse of position since you were doing nothing wrong.

I think you did exactly the right thing in just leaving it at that and not taking it any further / making problems for yourself.

There are twats in this world, some if not most wear uniforms.

Yep, some police people just like to get on peoples nerves because they can. When I was driving my car during the day once I had a copper get out his car come round to my window at lights.....adn what did he ask/tell me to do??? Turn my side lights off.!!!! I didnt know what to say apart from " I didnt know they were on"...... There is nowt illegal about it...think volvo! But if I had let it get to me, he would have succeeded in whatever he was trying to do ie piss me off! Some people in uniform just think they are god.......the ones that do are actually twats.....they will learn.....karma will get them in the end. At least I hope it will...... Twisted Evil

You tilt you head and screw up your face in a puzzled expression as if you haven't heard them, make them repeat themselves three times then shout "sorry mate, can't hear a word you are saying....earplugs." by which time the lights have turned green.

You have to wonder about coppers sometimes. I remember one time, I was driving down the M6 in my company car, the road was busy so I was actually doing under the limit and a cop car sat on my tail. When I took my exit he followed me. I slowed down to about 50 on a straight expecting him to overtake and he didn't, just sat behind me. I thought 'You're just going to sit following me all the way home until I make a mistake then book me for it you bugger". To prove this I turned off down a back road which doesn't really go anywhere, still there!

'Had enough of this' thinks I. Took another road that I know peters out into dirt then deeply rutted grass before landing up at some cattle pens in a field and the fecker followed me up there too. I was in my work mondeo which regularly went up those sort of roads, the coppers were in a volvo traffic car. They actually followed me up there past the point where my exhaust was scraping off the ground so god knows what it was doing to their car. They eventually gave up and reversed back, I have no idea what they were up to to this day.

They are not like normal people is all I can think.

The rules of the road state that you CAN filter through stationary vehicles when for example at traffic lights but you aren't allowed to pass the first vehicle.

Stupid rule I know and doubt anyone gets away with it but thats apparently the way its supposed to be done.

I thought that was only if there were zig-zag markings on the road. If there are none, you can go right to the front.

The police will nick you if there is something wrong with your
bike but what about when policemen are driving cars with a
defect??

Recently I saw a police car with only one headlight working
and another with only one brake light working. Both times I
was tempted to "have a word"

TODAY, saw six coppers on bicycles, they all ran a red light!!

Bottom line, they are just as bad as all other road users but
as they are the police they can get away with it. TWATS!!!!

As for attitude, Last time I got pulled up I had a real problem,
there were three cops in this car, one of which was a real
prick, he was very abusive. The other two were okay but this
one cop, I nearly hit him which is what he was trying to make
me do. He must hate bikers.

Give a man a uniform and he thinks he is GOD!!

I did pull up beside a traffic car which only had one brake light once, and tell them about it. They said they knew and were going back to change it. A neighbour who was in the traffic plod said that they are not allowed to change the bulbs and it has to go back to the depot for that.

All the best

Keith

I reckon the copper was just saying what a fair percentage of cagers stuck in London traffic must think when they see bikes make their way to the front at the lights and then speed off, while they continue to progress at an average of less than 5 miles an hour.

It's just jealousy and it gives me a little warm glow inside as I think of their frustration.

A mate told me the other day how he stopped a police car that was speeding, but without his blue flashing lights on, and he felt so good asking the copper 'Do you know why I've stopped you?'

They sheepishly apologised and admitted they were going too fast for the conditions - a built up area.

Why do they always get you with those questions?, LOL
Do you know how fast you were going?
Whats the speed limit here?
And the classic, Is this your vehicle?

Cheers

From my own experience.

Opening gambits:

What speed were you doing there then sonny?

Braking a little hard after you came round that corner (and saw our speed trap) weren't we sir?

Locked up the back wheel a little when I stepped in the road there sir?

Had a drink tonight have we?

Do you have a licence for this thing then son?

Are you alright, do you need an ambulance? Rolling Eyes

I noticed you were standing up on the footpegs there? (on 660cc supermoto)

Parting comments

You'll get a letter in due course from the procurator fiscal. Crying or Very sad

That all appears to be in order sir. Shocked

Consider that a warning (Thwack of ticket book hitting back of helmet). Don't do it again. Cool

Remember to hand in your documents.

And my personal favourite "Were you fuck doing 40mph, you must have been doing at least 90 but I couldn't get a clear shot with my radar gun. I have never seen anybody brake so hard in all my life. Get the fuck out of my sight" Twisted Evil

LMAO!!!, ahaha

over here you can't filter through traffic, everyone still does it but if you get caught you get hammered with massive fines for negligent driving/riding. In the city if i tried it people will open their doors on me and all sorts of shit.

I'd say... EH?
Was chatting to a wagon driver last night, who thought it'd be a good idea to open his door on filtering bikers.
I tried, so delicately, to explain the intracies and repercussions of his actions. Mostly involving swear words and threats of violence Very Happy

All because cops love their job! They love the little books, love the talk, love stopping you.

Or maybe its not because the cops love stopping you, maybe its becaseu you seem unable to control your riding. 12 points on a provisional? Don't pass your test son, thats a ban.

Surely after the first one or 2 stops you should of learned to calm down.

Now, most people I know are far from law-abiding saints on the road (myself included) but none of them have 12 points. None of them get the cops so anxious to chat to them.

Think about it. Think about why the cops stopped you. Was it so they could have a chat? Or was it becasue you were breaking the law with 40mph in a 30?

If I were you I'd calm down now before you end up with a long ban.

That kind of stuff will always "win" you the wrong sort of attention. What jumps in my mind is:

1) What you doing using high speed cornering techniques in town?
2) Why were you not slowing down, or at least showing caution on your approach to traffic lights.

The last issue may of been what the copper was thinking. Personally I'm with you mate. I think you should be allowed to go as fast as you want and let darwin sort you out.

I dont really think you could be any calmer, i dont know what your point is.
I have been unlucky.
Whats the point in stating 40mph is more than 30mph so thats illegal to me when its just what i said.
I mentioned the fact why i was caight doing it, i didnt want to be behind the twats in the car, it wasnt their car they could have done anything.
Yeah i got home and thought i should have pulled over and pretended to stop for something but you know it doesnt happen like that.
I dont go on the fu*king road thinking i want to show the cops i can ride like a dick.
As for the rossi knee down, at about 40 miles an hour it wasnt breaking the law at all it was controlled and at speed. Just unlucky a bike cop was behind me.
Speeding over 30 on a bike is easy getting stopped is even easier when the hide in the bushes.

Going by what he's been saying so far I believe I could take a good guess by saying speeding and riding without due care & attention or dangerous driving. Razz
