The RAC only gives registered year, number of owners and color, very basic. You can legally get details of any vehicle from the DVLA providing you can prove you have good cause to do so.

You might need to go through the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) https://www.mib.org.uk/index.asp which is the only way to claim damages when you get, for example, a hit and run driver and you thus do not have details of an insurance company to claim against for your damages.

I thought you said some woman or other got the plate right except for one character, and that you corrected that character upon seeing the car later? Surely the police will have some interest in pursuing it?

Hope it doesn't go all tits up for you.. Sad

Quote:
It was a pure stroke of luck I got his plate, a kind woman took it down before he left, but she said she wasn't 100% sure. As mum was taking me down to the station I saw the same car drive past round another roundabout, with exactly the same plate, but a 3 was an 8, the police checked out the first and there was no sych car, but the second one I saw on the way down was !! Oh, and yes it was the same one
Confused

Reckon the police can find all cars with that type of plate and find a car nearby? Or would they just be not interested in it and push it aside?

I reckon they could, but as you weren't seriously injured, I don't know if it would be very high on their priorities. Damage to property for understandable reasons should take deference to damage to health.

Good luck anyway though! Thumbs Up

Well the police might try and trace them, but even if they don't you still have a claim with the MIB and they will try to trace the driver to recover their losses from your claim, and I'd expect if they find them then the persons details will get passed to police for failing to stop after accident.

Just a thought, could it be that you were mistaken about the model of the Mercedes and the number plate was correct?

Also have you followed up with the police? Does the car 'live' in your area? You might want to try a bit of phsycology with them and act the poor, wronged, individual, who believes in the Rule of Law and needs their help in getting your insurance claim & uninsured losses. They also get an open and shut prosecution as well as the chance to come down heavy on a rich person who thinks they are above the law!

Good luck

Sorry to say this but it sounds to me like a cloned car with no insurance, which is why he drove off. What sort of person was driving, did they stop at all or not? If not, then think the worst.
