Would anyone recommend me doing a trackday on my RS125 starting next spring or whenever, with you people? Won't I be holding people up??

I had my bike dyno'd today - 27.8bhp at the back wheel - the guy in the shop said "it's very healthy"!

I'd like to be able to use it's, erm, full power without worrying about Gatsos, drain covers and wet leaves.

I dont see why you couldnt use it. After all, they are fairly quick bikes and get to a respectable speed fast enough.

I was thinking the same, but decided I'll leave track days til I have a bigger bike, means I can go faster. Mr. Green

Shouldn't be a problem.

Have you got a full licence?

Some places may not like you doing a trackday on a learner licence, though some will allow it.

Power shouldn't hold others up, going slow around corners may do. But if they're that much faster they'll be able to get past you.

It's people on fast bikes that take corners slowly that usually annoy others.

There were Aprilia RS125s in the fast group at Lydden when we went! But that was from the superteens champion ship, so they were quite fast riders.

A real 100, maybe indicating 115 at the same time. It's more the acceleration coming out of corners that people will be 'held up'... but shouldn't be a problem at all.

It really depends what track it is, if you took a 125 to Snetterton or Silverstone then you'd be having problems as they're high speed tracks, but last year at Lydden there was someone in the fast group on an RS125 holding their place so as long as it is a small track and not really a high speed one then you should be fine.

Even if on the bigger tracks you were able to hold your speed around the corners and go faster than others you'd just get annoyed as they'd all just overtake you on the straights.

Have you done your test?

Someone we know took a MZ250 to Snetterton. They make around 25hp in 'race tune'. He did go in novice, but I never caught him up and I was on a bike with way over twice the power (though it had shit tyres and it was my first track day, while he had raced the MZ).

Ive got two bikes a CBR600 and an RS125. Ive got plans for a few trackdays next year (although we have discussed using hired track bikes) and the more i think about i the more i'd like to get both of them out there. The RS handles like a dream, who cares if they blast you on the straights? If you slow them down to hell with them, just go in the right group keep an eye on those little mirrors (depending on how broad your shoulders are) and dont cut anybody up. If you do that and still get in their way then its more their fault than yours. Just make sure you either have a one piece or a set of leathers that zip together otherwise they may not let you on!!

Go for it!!

Thumbs Up

Doing a trackday on the RS250 I found I was getting frustrated because I was being held up by slower riders on faster bikes...
I eventually managed to get to the point that I could stay ahead of the bikes that I could catch up, but it was still frustrating.

I didn't want to go into a faster group as while my corner speed would be similar, I wouldn't be able to 'chase' anyone.

You should never be worried about holding others up with lack of power... they can go past on the straights. If you're not going fast enough in the corners in the novice group, well, it's the novice group. In faster groups, you cana lways drop down a group.

You will if you then get stuck behind them in the corners.

No, do not keep an eye on your mirrors, remove your mirrors or tape them up to stop them being a distraction. What is behind you doesn't matter on track, if they want to overtake you then it is their responsiblity to do so safely, it is not your concern.

Not they may not, they will not. You have to use one or two piece leathers and a helmet with the little ACU gold sticker thing on, turn up in textiles or not in leathers and you don't stand a chance of being let out onto the track.

I have passed my test, check this thread - been waiting over 2 weeks for my upgraded licence back from the DVLA.

I've just started to appreciate the RS's cornering ability - doing nothing but commuting on it all year kinda dulls the experience really!

I'd love to do Mallory Park as it's one of the closest tracks to where I live, and it was the first racetrack I have ever visited as well.

Should be fine, unless you're wobbling all over the track and holding people up. Don't worry if you're slow - it's up to other people to pass you and if you're slow then it shouldn't be a problem for them Thumbs Up
