Now that ive persuaded my parents to pay for my theory/practical test s is anyone able to advise on whether its a good idea to take lessons before i go in for the practical test? (I suppose a few would be good, just so the instructor can pick up on anything im doing wrong so i dont fail on it).. Also how much on average would 125cc (Part 2?) lessons cost?

Smile

I would, I found that I didn't do certain things that would fail me, after riding for a year. My lessons cost £45 for 3 hrs.

I did my test without lessons, failed first try for foot down in U turn (stupid mistake really), for observation at a junction the second time, someone changed lanes on a roundabout at the last minute and I should have expected it more and left a bigger gap, and passed the third time. Reckon it didn't work out much cheaper or more expensive than taking lessons as most people pass second time after a few lessons so about same total cost.

I had 3 hours of lessons within a month before my test. First one on my 50 to pick up any bad habbits that i had gained in 18 months of cbt riding. Next one on the 125 to get me used to the heap of shit and see how many habbits i had got rid of, then one last lesson the hour before my test to get me in the frame of mind.

Well worth the £50 as it highlighted all my errors and showed me what the examminer wants to see.

Think i paid £20ph on their bike and £10-15ph on my bike.

Lessons are pretty much a must. Just to get you out of any bad habbits your doing. Also a lesson imediatly before your test seems a good idea. Failed mine first time for leaving indicators on Doh! but passed second time with 6 minors. Best advise I can give is make sure your ready as rushing into it can cost lots.

I was on my 125 with Ls for nearly 2 years, only took my test when i realised i was never going to be able to afford a car, and that I was having a lot of fun!

Im going to be pretty set financially if i rent one of the test centers bikes, but if i have to buy a 125 then insure it i might be a little bit more strapped for cash...

I took 5 lessons when I was doing my test, mainly down to the fact I had never ridden anything other than a 50cc scoot before.

Also the lessons I did were held as days so everything was drummed into me rather than doing it in a few hour lessons each week.
Although I failed first time down to me being stupid and not thinking properly on my test I would highly recommend this way.

It certainly gets rid of any bad habits you have picked up having an instructor riding behind you for 5 hours a day. Smile

I had a lesson the day of my test, literally just before the test itself, I'd recommend that as if anything was going to go wrong, it went on that lesson. Stupid STUPID mistakes, but it got me all cleared out of stupidness before the test. passed no probs.

To be honest I can't beleive they allow ppl on the road after a few hours training anyway i.e the CBT it does'nt teach you anything about road awerness!!

One way to look at it is how much would you pay to get the training so you don't have an accident, not saying the training will stop this but I beleive you become more road aware and gain lots more machine control!

I had a fair few lesson's (about 6 3 hr lessons) but thats on the 500CC for my big bike test.
I came back with 1 minor which was cos I was only 2 seconds behind a car for in the rain and not 4 seconds and that was just whilst I came up to over take!
Anyway I'd advice you to take lessons ok it cost money but you'll probably come out more road aware!
