Have you taken a look at the MZ SM 125? I've seen a few of them around and they look quite nice and have the most powerful 125 4-stroke available (or at least they did earlier this year, not so sure anymore). It's a 4-stroke, so a lot less maintenance will be needed. I've managed 75 mph wide open on the RT version of the bike, the SM topping off at around 72 mph.

Haha, well some people don't need to compensate for certain "inadequacies" with beefy swingarms that just amount to uneccessary added weight. And it's not mechanically up to date? It has the most advanced, best performing 125 4-stroke engine out right now! AFAIK only three other bikes in this class have four valves and twin cams. I suggested the bike because I know from first hand experience that it's a quality machine that might catch Robboadd's interest.
Anyhow, there's a silly review of the bike at:
https://www.2wf.com/articles/bike_tests/E5392DA9-0AB9-4211-B03C-6EDC3B1976E0.asp
Silly because they compare the MZ's to a Suzuki Swift . But you can tell that the guys have a sh*tload of fun on the bikes and they're nothing to scoff at.

So what you're saying is that because I demand the best from the entire bike, not just the engine, that I've got a tiny pecker? Which scientific method was it that you used to arrive at that conclusion, anyway?
Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers, I just know what I like and what I don't. Looks like a solid bike for the most part, just a bit behind the times in some key areas. Whether they're key for it's class, I've not a clue. Judging by your opinion on the matter, I'll assume not. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/californiarookie/04gsxr600/

Well, judging from the tone of your post, which could easily be mistaken for flamebait, I replied in kind. I apologize that I seem to have hit a chord .
The swingarm is more likely than not physically sound and up to whatever your average rider is going to throw at it, ie, not dropping from 10 feet onto flat ground .

Well, check out the link . Every other review I've read of this bike has been very positive. It's not in the same league as the Gas-Gas, mostly because the GG is 99% a race bike, much smaller and lighter, more potent and more flickable than the MZ, whereas the MZ is a tad more laid-back and a proper full-size bike. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun on it, which is exactly what is demonstrated by the testers at that site.
At first I really didn't like the looks very much - in fact, I tried to convince my friend to buy something else (which he did). But after riding one and seeing them on the road for 6 months I've gradually grown to liking the design. Has a nice side-profile and the plastics there look good (IMO).
Again, I was just giving Roboadd something else to at least consider. I'm not affiliated with MZ in any way and will NOT get a huge Christmas bonus for pushing a sale here! |

After reading that article, i'd be keen on trying out that RT 125 (though not in the yellow) and i thought the 12.8 bhp at the rear wheel on the dyno was good (well for a 125cc anyhows).
And i like the fact that there review was quite down to earth and a bit nutty ____________________ ****NORTHERN IRELAND NEWSFLASH!!**** According to a recent survey, 94% of loyalists said the best sex they ever had was in the shower; the other 6% haven't been to jail yet.*** |

Getting a off roader is going to work out a lot cheaper than a Mito or RS, I would suggest getting a Motard style as this is less likely to be stolen. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

If the GAS GAS does make 36hp at the rear wheel then I suspect you're in for regular rebuilds; that's probably getting on for twice as much as most of the road 2st mc bikes.
california_rookie:
If you demanded the 'best' from your bike you definitely wouldn't be getting a 125cc trail style bike for the road .
The fact is that it doesn't /need/ USD forks a stronger swingarm, so if it was me, I'd rather not pay for them. |

The Gas Gas is nice, but looking at that video, its just a high powered MX bike with 17" wheels and an enduro lighting kit.
If your looking for a 125cc SM, why not check out the new Yamaha DT125X?
https://www.yamaha-motor.be/dutch/products/motorcycles/125cc/dt125x.jsp
Thats by far the best looking 125 SM I've seen. It'll have enough grunt to satisfy, yet have a strong, reliable engine which is designed for the road.
Just a suggestion. ____________________ Aprilia RSV Mille R Edwards Replica - Aprilia RS250 - Suzuki GSXR600 Supersport Race Bike |

Your absolutely right! its got no autolube, a 38mm carb, and if you listen to the bike and watch the vid, you can see there is terrible carburation and throttle response at the bottom end. Its vertially unridabe below the powerband, and yes AFAIK its a full on MX tune motor near enough. The bikes needs clutching out of every hairpin to get away, and when it hits the band coming out of a greasy wet roundabout or corner on a shitty day, you'll probably be on your arse! look at how hard it is to wheelie! A DT or KMX would come up in first or second far more easily! It looks good, sounds good, but as a road bike i reckon it would end in tears!
I want about the same sort of power from my kmx200 moto, but without an evil on or off powerband, so that its rideable in the wet and tractable round town etc! |
