The fit of protective kit is pretty important, if the fit is poor the effectiveness is compromised. Stop being a big poof and go shopping. Laughing

Try to go with a friend if you can.
The good shops that sell leathers have seen it all before and are well used to people trying on loads of different suits.
Listen to their advice and ask whatever questions you want.
I have found in the past you are better going to a shop that sells just the clothing such as Hein or J&S as they have larger selection. Most shops that sell bikes do the clothing as a sort of side line.

I've not found a member of the H-G staff who has been rude or insensitive to what I've wanted. It's the bike shops where they have half-trained monkeys selling clothing that you want to avoid.

Also, the intimidation of only having a 125 is far less in H-G as there aren't rows and rows of superbikes sat there, mocking your lack of cc.

You need to pick up a bit of courage and go and try them on, and get their advice on fitting, as ill-fitting leathers are a very bad thing, not only in comfort, but also in safety.

(H-G = Heine Gericke)

What they said. The staff in Leicester's Hein Gericke are excellent too, really helpful, never patronising, and they can never do enough for you ('cos they're on regional sales bonuses). There's bound to be a branch near you (unless you live on Mars), and you could do much worse than pay them a visit. Thumbs Up

You are going through what most 125 ers do. the "will I look a prat with full leathers on a 125" syndrome.

My view is the that the prat is the guy in the t-shirt and trainers who falls of. I belive that leathers no matter what you are riding do give you that extra bit of confidence.

Your 50% there just considering leathers.

Buying leathers on ebay seemed to me a good way to save a buck. Yet of course I couldn't try them on. I had a vague idea of what size i was from trying hundreds of other leathers on. So I went for it.

Ooch! fit pretty well, untill i stood up.

I am now a castrato, much to ann's amusement.

Morel is, 'try before you buy!! Embarassed '

You mentioned you don't have any balls though, so you may be ok Wink

If it helps your confidence mate, I'm on a NSR 125 and wear full two piece leathers and boots, no one has ever laughed at me for it, and I wouldnt go out without them.. Don't forget you need protection coming off a bike whatever speed you are likely to be doing Thumbs Up

I have bought leathers from e-bay. I wanted Alpinestars, so tried lots on in shops until I found the size style etc that I wanted. Went home to think about it then saw an exact same suit on e-bay. Bid and won. Saved a lot but you always have the risk that they are not exactly as described etc.

Lol, mate you're an idiot if you don't, not if you do. Any bigger sportsbike rider who takes the piss out of you for having a 125 is probably some rich suit-type who is as much a biker as you are a qualified ballet instructor.

Personally if anyone had a dig at me for wearing leathers with my ickle RS I'd point out that it hurts just as bad scrubbing out gravel if you come off a 125 as if you come off some supersports 600+. And then probably throw things, for good measure.

At the end of the day just remember leathers serve a purpose and are not a fashion statement.

Actually mate walking into HG, or similar going in to get leathers, is more likly to make them think of you as a sensiable type, that is actually bothered about what they are wearing on the bike, and not thinking that "oh its only a 125, ill wear my trackies"

the only people that will takes the piss are the ped boi's and other twats that think riding in jeans and t shirt is a good idea.

you will get laghed at if you go for a 1 piece full on race leathers tho, but then most people will

At which point, I should like to point out that leathers are not the be all and end all in motorcycle clothing... Textiles have a place too, especially in rubbish weather like we seem to have been having for the last month.

See here for T.C.'s input.

Mate, if you want leathers, then get some! Have you ever seen a 125 race when they wear Nikes and trackies? No? Good Go get your leathers, you can use them when you upgrade to! As someone who rides a large cc sportsbike, I have total respect for anyone on any size bike who takes their safety seriously.

OR an alternative to leathers but sticking with the saftey theme

Touring jacket and trousers

Thats my preference fully armoured and padded touring jacket with removable linings for the winter and armoured textile trousers again with removable lining for winter.

On your bike though leathers would look great

Thumbs Up

I think that you should go and try some leathers on. It's very important to have a comfortable suit because if the size isn't right then it won't be as protective. About the good makes I know that Alpine Stars, Dainese, and Joe Rocket are good. I'm 18 too I wanted to buy a smaller bike right now I have a zzr400 and I know that if I see a guy riding a 125cc bike or a hayabusa i will still respect him. If they laugh let them, who cares cause your going to practice on this bike and your gonna fall(hopefully not) but if you do your gonna get back up and practice again (with the leathers) and maybe one day you'll return to the shop with some big bad 1000cc machine and then you'll laugh at THEM Very Happy Very Happy
