Have read all postings none answer my question im going to ask.

My mate who is 37 has decided to get his RD 250 dx 1978 which hes had for 17 years back on the road.
The question is hes just renewed his licence for a photo one its came back as a PROVISIONAL (As hes never taken a car test)only ever rode bikes since 16.And hes not road riden for nearly 12 years now.
On the back its got.
A 22-02-86 11-01-37
B 12-01-84 11-01-37
C1 12-01-84 11-01-37
D1 12-01-84 11-01-37
fklnp 18-10-83 11-01-37
gh 18-10-83 11-01-37 date of birth 12-01-67

Can he ride his Rd or will he need to take a cbt and test.
as you can see cat A starts on his licence from when he was 19
B C1 D1 when 17 and
fklnpgh from 16
On the paper counter part which came back with licence there is nothing written at all.
Only reason he changed his licence was he had changed address and wanted to get points and ban removed which were from 1985 and 1986.

If it's a provisional only (i.e an 'L' on the front and not an EU flag) then he needs to take the CBT then test before he can ride it.

Hi

Double check with the DVLA, but they are known to quite regularly screw up and loose people licence groups when people send their licences in.

All the best
