I've a Hongdou of a different variety. They are cheap, but do not hold their value well at all. (I blagged mine for £1000 when they were selling for £1500, six months ago.) Now you can get them for £900. I reckon I might just sell mine to my brother for a couple of hundred when he starts biking in a couple of years, or maybe just give it to him free.

Parts are a pain in the arse. Non-standard bulbs anyone? Is the GY a four stroke or a two stroke? If it's a four, don't bother with it, you'll be more than disappointed with the power. Running in is a more than tedious process with an underpowered motor too.

Personally, if I knew then what I knew now, I'd have just got the NS125 for £750 I had my eye on. If I was you, I'd look at buying an older bike for less than a grand, as you are going to drop it. Two smokes actually make the 15 bhp limit easily on the whole, and more quite often.

Technical Specification:-
Colour-green/white
Powerful 4 stroke engine
Overall length-2090mm
Width-860mm
Height-1105mm
Overall weight-117kg
Max speed-80km/h
Cylinder bore x stroke-69 x 53
Compression ratio-9:2:1
Max output-8.0kw-10.8kw at 8000rpm
Fuel tank capacity-9l
Ignition means-CDI
Battery-12v

Looking at those specs, it doesn't seem an altogether bad machine. Just about the same as a CG125.

I'd go for a Comet 125 any time over my bike to be honest. Sad However, they're more money than I had.

Thanks for the honest advice mate, i appreciate it. Thumbs Up

Im on a tight budget too, but im hoping i could get a comet for around £1200 if i look around and take my time. THe Hongdou's are tempting though, your custom certainly looks really nice.

Think im going to try out the CG125 as well to see how small it feels to me - i drive a mini so im used to fitting into small sapces! Very Happy

I had a Hongdou CG125 and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. To be fair, the engine and transmission seemed solid enough but the build quality on the rest of the bike was terrible. The battery was held in place by a large rubber band, which perished very quickly and resulted in me having to tape it up. The lugs on the plastic panels on the side broke on the second time I removed it. The brakes (drum front and rear) were shocking - no stopping power at all. The clutch cable just snapped after about 500 miles. The silver paint on the front drum brake and the chain guard was very thin and bubbled up and flaked in no time. Also there was a design problem with the electric starter system, which meant that if you tried to start it when the battery was dead (which happened quite soon if you rode around with the lights on all the time) then it would shag the solenoid. What else? Oh yes, several of the spokes on the rear wheel broke for no apparent reason.

I think that's everything. Very Happy I know the price makes a Hongdou a tempting option, but in my opinion it's a false economy.

I dunno look around i just picked up a 99 (T) honda NSR 125 for 700 pounds and there worth about 2000 the bike is in perfect working order and in mint condition so it always pays to just have a good hunt about before parting with your hard earned cash!

Good luck with bike hunting!
