 |
|
i got a quote from carol nash fully comp for a 93 VFR400 NC3O at 17 for £460, and thought it was too good to be true, rang up today and they said they could not quote anyone that price. so now im back to the drawing board. before i get the bike i want to know what the cheapest insurance will be. Is there anyone who has cheapish insurance on that bike around my age? or know of a cheap insurance company?

Well at least they are better than the response I got when I passed my test at 17 and bought a 375 bigbore powervalve.
The first few conversations went something like:
'Yes, it is a 1981 Yamaha 350YPVS with a 375cc conversaion kit and micron exhausts."
"One moment please sir."
*silence... sound of hand going over reciever.*
*muffled spluttering of laughter.*
"Jim...Jim, check this guy out. He is 17 passed his test two weeks ago and wants us to insure him on a Stan Stevens powervalve!"
*More barely controlled laughter*
"Right, quiet, quiet! Shhhh."
"I am sorry Sir, we are unable to offer you a quote on that vehicle"
I eventually twigged and just lied to them that it was totally standard. Which I suppose meant I wasn't really insured. They still charged me £420 TPO though (and this was eight years ago mind!) ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. The company who worked out cheapest for AcIdBuRnZ will only work out cheapest for your son if he is the same age, has same amount of NCB and lives in same postcode as AcIdBuRnZ.
You just need to call around lots and lots of insurance companies then play the cheapest few off against each other. Fair enough it will take a few hours but it will save you a few hundred pounds so it's a very financially productive few hours.
Or as said, you can get Danny to do this for you. |

Get a quote from www.clickquote.com and you'll be able to get ~20% less by phoning around and haggling. |

Hrm, I couldn't get a quote for me or my brother from them, without saying it was garaged. Oh well, I was wrong; I used Direct Choice to get to ERS, perhaps it's a specific thing to them. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

So did I.
I'm thinking perhaps your postcode is high risk? Are you in a big city?
I live in small town - perhaps that's why they don't mind it sitting in the street. |
My brother's is, he lives in Dundee in a council estate, admittedly flats rather than houses, so fewer children around, but still, he's already had a bike nicked.
Where I live at home is a sleepy little village with two pubs and a church, and about 400 houses. Must be about the lowest risk possible, or so I would have thought. Having said all that, about a mile away is an ex pit town, which must be pretty diabolical for crime. All in all confusing.
(As my Mum's in a old victorian house, complete with stables, coach house and all, my trusty (hah!) steed does literally get put to bed in the stables.) ____________________ I must not be a troll...
