Hello peeps.

I've got an er5(see signature) and am looking into changing the exhaust on it for either an IXIL or LASER slip on can.

Just one thing to ask really, when it comes to MOT time, do you ONLY need the old can if the new one is louder than the legal limit?

As the ixil and laser are both road legal, would it be okay to put it on(involves sawing off the old one) and take it for an MOT(january)?

I've always wondered if it was JUST the sound level, nothing else which mattered.

thanks in advance Smile

Hi

For the MOT you need an exhaust that is not marked "Not For Road Use" and which is as quiet as a standard exhaust in reasonable condition in the opinion of the MOT tester.

The old rules were that it had to have a BS stamp or an E mark, or be the OE silencer, irrespective of how quiet it was.

All the best

Keith

Ha Laughing, my exhaust had a metal plate on it saying "competition only", so we just ripped it off and switched the cans over so that you cant see the rivit holes!
