Ebay's always good for cheap tools. The quality on the few that I've bought has been fine.

Most of my tools are from Halfords, next best thing to Snap-on!
The Quality of their professional range is great and well priced.

Agreed, i started my tool collection with Halfords professional bits, and now i have added to it with some Teng Tools spanners/tools that are not available in the Halfords range. I got a 4 draw top chest for most of my gear, and im getting a Halfords tool cabinet this month to put it on, and store the rest of my gear.
I need a good workbench now, with a large vice, and also a parts washer, and small compressor. I think the SIP range of compressors looks quite decent, but does anyone have any reccomendations where i can get a decent work bench from a reasonable price. I ws thinking of getting an old woodworking bench, and screwing a sheet of aluminium to the top, but i cant find an old bench going spare thats less than about 10ft long!

If you're really on a budget, you can get a set from B&Q for £20 that has most of the bits you'll need to start with except a torque wrench. It's what I initially bought, and despite expecting the tools to give up the ghost quite quickly, they've actually all been OK. Not exactly top of the range, but it's fine for what I do. I'm buying better / other tools as and when I need them, which isn't often.

I only have one tool in my box from Halfords: 25 year old pliers, & usually the first ones I reach for when I just need *normal* pliers.

But ya gotta have the right box to keep em in.....
