Ok well I had a fun day today when I went to work on my bike. Riding down the dual carriageway the bike started to feel a little weird, thought I'd back off and sit at 60. Anyway came to the big round about that enters into the town I work at and tried to lean the bike normally to get around a corner! but oh dear! it really felt like the handle bars had a mind of their own and I had to force counter steer to get round the bend! anyway stopped the bike jumped off to find the front tyre was way down in pressure!!!!! turns out I got apuncture anyway took it to get fixed (Value tread in Hexham) and the guy their fixed it for me for dirt cheap and it's sorted for the week then I'll buy a new tyre! It had two punctures in it.
Anyway can't beleive how horrible the bike goes when the tyre pressure is down and it can easily knock you off as it constantly tries to go into a tank slapper!
So check you tyre pressures every time you get on your bike I know I will.

I know what you mean mate. I once had a puncture while I was on the motorway, I didn't know anything was wrong until I got onto the slip road when the bike started handling very badly, I pulled over and the tyre very quickly deflated.

I eventually managed to get the bike to Bendys (who I was on the way to see anyway). We inflated the tyre and it was less than a minute before it went flat.

I suddenly felt shivers down my spine as I remembered that I was hitting three digits on the motorway, could have ended very, very badly. Shocked Neutral

Oh I know what you mean, it just doesn;t feel right when your tyre has deflated a little, it feels like you have no control over the bike! Smile

I rode my bike to the petrol station with a very low rear tyre, 5 or 6 psi. Going down a hill at only 40-50mph the back end was shaking from side to side (a bit like a tankslapper) and it wouldnt stay straight!

I've always thought the best place to be when you have a slow puncture would be on the motorway, due to the force the air would surely stay in the tyre?

Also I check my tyre pressures every sunday now, since I got the GPZ, you can really feel when there even only slightly off!

I have to check my pressures every two or three days on my CB250 (T-reg) because a light drop in pressure and the bike just doesn't feel right.

To make matters worse, I've just had a new front tyre so getting use to the new tyre isn't helping.

Funny thing is I don't get problems with my CD250U, I can ride that bitch till the pressure is 5PSI and I wouldn't notice.

2/3 psi out can certainly be felt on the tank...

Ever felt how hot a deflated tyre gets? not good, quite a good chance of blowing out at that sort of tempreture apparently, so its not a top idea rideing on it for any longer than absoloutely necessary (just in case anyone was thinking of doing it for a laugh Razz ).

When i had my cg i totaly forgot to do the pressures for ages (that much fun, oh yes) i was allarmed and impressed at how differently it rode after another 10 psi Very Happy

can you imagine how a tubed tyre feels at 50mph? tubeless go down soooo slowly in comparison with a tubed. i was basically riding on my front rim on an A-road. man that was scary. the wheel was sideways when trying to pull over. Sick

Hint:don't run over bricks Very Happy

Supermotos are once again the way forwards. I have developed a blase attitude to tyre pressures since I got mine.

I have seen the rear tyre down by a full 15psi and it made little discernable difference to the handling other than a tendancy to continue sideways in the same direction for a short distance when changing lanes over 80mph.

The first motorcycle I owned was a 74 Norton 850 Commando. Bad ass old bike, but it had the original dunlop tires 19 inch front and rear. I didnt know much about bikes but I am a good mech. So I got the thing running as well as I could, with Amal carbs, and took off down the road. While I was testing how well it ran, full on throttle, idling, brakes and handling.I was so excited that I fixed everything that I never bothered looking at the tire pressure. So being nieve I nail the throttle back and just held it. You know, top speed test! Let me say this about old Brit bikes they are sound so good wound up! So at 100mph the bike starts vibrating furiously. Then it starts the tank slapping. I almost shit myself. I got back started digging in and to the cause of the problem. Low tire press. Now I check. Moral of the story is check your f-ing tire pressure.
