I've often thought whether to put CIA insurance in my signature, I say it all the time lol.

Phone them up other companies first and get a general idea of how much it will cost in your level of cover (TPO, TPFT, FC) Say your cheapest up to this point is about £515. Then phone CIA up, and say that your cheapest quote is about, say £430. They'll usually be desperate enough to ebat it. Also try motorcycle insurance.

Insurance might be a bit high, being a new "expensive" bike an all, depends on how jammy you are really Wink

P.S Good to ehar you're joining the 500 crew Very Happy Very Happy Although, personally I'd get the nekkid gs500, looks gorgeous

I'm with motorcycledirect.com

Came with free breakdown insurance, which is always a bonus.

www.motorcycledirect.co.uk don't seem to like insuring young people on bikes over 250cc. Confused

Well in my opinion you'd be better off getting an older and cheaper GPZ500S, not only is the GPZ faster and handles better.
Its would also be cheaper to insure with it being older, and the GPZ will also keep you more entertained in my opinion too.

The GS500 is one boring bike with a fairing or not, were as the GPZ has a nice little powerband to play with. Smile

That was a completely unbiased view wasn't it Craig. Smile

GPZ's hold onto their value though, plus dont they have problems at around 15k miles??

Handy powerband, yes, but then again if you progress form a 125 to 500, like me, you'll find any of them fecking fast. I do with my er5....Very Happy

Still a GS500 with a bit of plastic stuck to it, gonna handle no differently or have any extra power. I still wholly recommend the GPZ500S as its worth the difference if any in insurance!

That's the same one I'm looking to get.

Come on - it looks great and everyone goes off about how it performs badly in comparison to say the extremely ugly GPZ500S.

From my point of view it doesn't matter, why?

I'm 19, meaning I'll have it restricted to 33 BHP. Which would be the same as restricting a GPZ500S to 33 BHP; it'll make no difference.

I'll be using it to commute mainly - you can't enjoy your bike on the streets of London anyway, especially Central London. So all the attributes in which the GS500F apparently fails no longer matter.

Let's face it - once you turn 21 you get your DAS and hop on a 600, 750 or 1000. Very Happy

Gonna stick my foot in the door and say that the GS500F does look smart, but for the same price, why not get a used SV in the same group 9 insurance for cheaper than a new GS? You'll be left with a very compotent bike in the end of your 2 year probation, and the SV's going to be the route that i'm going to take. But having said that, the faired in look of the GS as it's established engine mean that you're not going to go far wrong with that. But if I were 19, in your shoes, then a restricted SV will be the choice for me.

^^ I'm 20, and thought the best choice would be a 500 for me, I wouldn't really trust myself with a 600 or 650. Insurance wise its better, plus the 500's lose their value, so you HAVE to take advantage of it Very Happy

get the gs500 dude, stick with the 500's it a good market to be in, especially a step up from a 125. Very Happy

I'd say get the unfaired one, or any of the unfaired 500's, just les plastics to break, thats all! Join up on the gs500e forum www.gs500e.co.uk

Was probably with an aftermarket fairing.

As those IQ tests go GS500f is to gs500 as CBR125 is to cg125 Smile.

Except the CBR does seem to have more advantages over the CG Confused. Ok, a fairing/screen is definitely a good thing for doing distance, but apart from that it seems an ideal way for new bikers to lose lots of money Neutral.
