ns125 ignition problems

This bike is just getting wierder and weirder. A while back i posted that there was good spark (and there was) . However i noticed the other day that it also sparked up the ht lead. That can't be good right ?

Electricity will always take the easiest path (of least resistance) back to earth (or batt - in our case) if the plug is too much of an effort. When this happens current will pass through the insulation of the HT lead because the insulation is easier to get back to earth to then the plug itself. Check plug condition and plug gap especially. Also cleaning the ht lead may help you until u get a new lead.

You need to change the HT lead, if you look on the sparkplug there will probably be a blackline up the side of the white casing, this is where the spark has been traveling along the side of the sparkplug, you will also have to change the sparkplug now but the whole lot will be less than a tenner.

hey stinkwheel theres a good chance of getting a shock if you touch a ht lead with wet hands ha ha

make sure there are no breaks in the insulation or the charge will try and arc on the frame also remove plug cap and snip the end of the ht lead to make sure theres a good connection between the lead and the cap

I would change the leads. Mine did this as well.
Also check the spark plug is not dirty or oiled. The current will find any way it can to get to ground.

sorry had completely forgotten bout this post. A new ignition coil and ht lead (seeing as they don't seperate, how weird!!!) are currently winging their way here from dave silver. I am hoping this is going to make the damn thing work as i have now checked everything in the entire bike. As for oil my spark plug seems to get oiled up real easy. I am constantly cleaning it. Thanks for all your help guys and, if it doesn't work, anyone wanna buy a knackered ns125f?

You dont have to buy a new coil! Shocked

Old biker trick: go to a car care shop and ask for an "in-line suppressor" .
Next go to a lawn mower shop and buy some "copper core H.T. lead" (you can buy it by the foot)
Then go home, take off the coil, cut the H.T lead on the coil so its about 2 inchs long, screw the "in-line suppressor" then screw the new H.T. lead into the "in-line suppressor" then fit your plug cap.
JOB DONE!
Have done this on my trike, saved me about £120 for 2 new coils, cost me under £5 Very Happy
