Alrite my dears... anyone owned one?
Tis just my mate Stu has one he wants to sell, for about £430, in reasonable (but bounced) condition.
Just wondered how much you reckon getting two new pistons and barrels, a powervalve, a gasket set and possibly a new fairing would cost. New being taken in the 'new' tense (ie ebay etc) and do you think it would be an ok buy?

Hi

Barrels and pistons are not cheap, especially not with the power valves. Think the gaskets are not too bad. GRP fairings should be fairly cheap.

I would guess at £100 each barrel for replating, £150 for the pistons, another £100 for the power valves, £40 for the gaskets. Say about £500 before replacing the fairings, and a fair amount of work.

You might well be able to source a few bits cheaper on Ebay, but they are bits that are in demand for the RGV.

Personally as that would make it around an £1100~ £1200 bike once sorted it seems a bit pricey.

All the best

Keith

Depends what you want a rgv for really it would be worth it if you were going to use it for short distances a couple of times a week.

Anything apart from that stear well clear.

For the pistons, rings and gaskets then this site HERE - RGV250.co.uk[/url may be of some interest as they do a full top end set for £150 inc. VAT & delivery which doesn't sound too bad to me at all

But as Keith said, about £100 for replating each cylinder or [url=https://www.stanstephens.com/index.html?nico.htm~contents]Stan Stephens
does an exchange service for £110 and that page also includes all the other options for cylinder replating which maybe worth a read.

Fairings can often be found either on eBay or at most breakers so I'd imagine you could get the full lot for under £250. As for the powervalve, I'll see if I can find anywhere that does them new but cheap, otherwise have a look around on the RGV site above as that's a website with forum specific to them so there should be some good info on there if you're seriously considering it.

In total though it's still going to come to around a grand or abit more to buy the bike and fix it up, so to do it up and sell it on with a profit it's going to be hard if that's what you're intending as they generally sell for under £1500 at the moment - could be an interesting project though!

Ok thanks for the help guys
ill tell him its next to scrap then Very Happy
Maybe help him break it for money.

As for why i wanted it, it was just as a little bit of a low speed high poered (ish) bike i could throw about. Get it downgeared etc.

But for a pipedream thats alot of work. Plus i think ive just got a coil sorted for my bike for £5 so i may well be back on the road Very Happy

Hi

Thought you were after a slower or at least more sedate bike. The RGV would be a hell of a lot quicker and a lot less sedate.

All the best

Keith

yeh... Im in two minds. I just know i dont want the goose. Its unreliable, fast enough to get me nicked, but not fast enough to get away from said coppers etc etc. Its just too middle ground. But that said its legal.
