Today I saw a trike that got pulled over by wait for it.... a modified mk5 Golf. On the front big mouth bumper it had the small blue lights, and with a single officer in the car you wouldn't of had a clue. I've also seen modified Mondeos and a very fast tricked up Galant. Has anyone else came across this or is it only a NI thing?

I live in South Manchester and the other week i was going in my mates car to town when we went through a set of traffic lights the car behind us went through on Orange and Suburu Impressa kitted up to the bollocks flew out of a side street with all lights a blaze behind the grill and pulled them over i had to look twice cus the car was that nice.

Then the other day i was on my bike when i rode past a copper in a unmarked Alfa Romeo sports.

Must be quite a lot of sports police cars around just dont see them very often.

With the law now saying that anything that can be proved to be bought with drug/crime money can be confiscated i wonder if they are confiscating cars and using them.

I heard of this happening in the states.

Sounds about right as the subaru was a looker and you wouldent of belived it was a cop car until the blue light behind the grill and it was the new subaru so not much chance of loosing him in that car especially on my NSR125R

I got pulled by an unmarked new golf, i thought he was trying to race me as he was right up my arse Smile , well it was an A-road and i lost him easy (i didn't know it was old bill) and as soon as i come to the end of the road there was a couple of marked cars and made me pull over. I thought crap i lost my licence as i already have 6 points, but he just gave me a 7 day producer and a good telling off.

The police in York (I think?) had a heavily tuned Sierra Cosworth used for the high speed pursuits.
Teesside and Durham have plenty of unmarked cars... bloody unfair if you ask me!

I work in the Republic of Ireland a lot, the good thing is that police all drive marked cars (maybe not CID) and they can't pull you over just for a routine check. I hear police in England somewhere are using a Fireblade too. No chance of outrunning that one.

Hi

NI police are well used to using flash unmarked police cars. They used to use 2.8 Capris about 20 years ago, and it was not unknown for them try and get people to race off the lights.

All the best

Not being funny but if they are sat there as if they wanna race you, isn't it entrapment?

That would be very hard to prove one way or the other.

If they said "wanna race" then sure. If they sit there and look at you, that may be interpretted as wanting to race, but the police can just say it was misinterpretted.

I havn't been pulled yet, and I havn't seen any out the usual unmarked cars.

Cool, so if I'm not sure if they are coppers or not, just ask them if they intend to race. Laughing

I and a few others on a wales rideout got pulled over by an unmarked blue Ford Galaxy, it had the blue lights hidden behind the grill and underneath the front spoiler.

I was thinking it is quite a weird car to be used for patrolling. Confused

Funny you should say that. It was about 20 years ago when someone I know and his mate were heading up to the Port for the evening, and they met a car at the lights wanting a race. I'm not honestly sure what it was but bottom line is they whipped it and it continued well into the 100s, till the blue lights came on. They got a good telling off but let go. A few days later in the paper there was a write up about this new unmarked car which was easily the fastest thing in the country. embarrasement of getting beat was the reason they didn't do them.

Well that would be all well and good apart from if this country was to stop importings cars to use for the police then they'd then be left with a much smaller choice of cars which aren't as good.

Good idea. So then we would be chased by Morgans, TVR's, Lotus and Noble's.

HMMMMM....let me think........

To be honest they had other things to worry about.

Years ago a school friend was pulled up only about 3 weeks after his test. Went through a roadblock (a car was facing him with bright lights so he was dazzled and the first he knew was when he saw a red torch jumping into the hedge), and then tried to get away. Landed up chased by 2 police cars (Capri and an XR4x4) and doing some fairly silly things. He did get caught. All he got was a 6 month extension to his R plates.

All the best

Keith

Someone my dad ran about with on the bikes was first to have his R plates up and last to have them down from so many speeding offenses they just extended them. Pity it's all changed so much now.
