Just like to know your thoughts, what would you if you notices another biker broken down or involved in a accident?

On monday i was on the m11, huge traffic, so i was filtering through these cars, when a some dumb T**T pulled left so fast i didnt have time to stop. He indicated, but it was too quick, by the time he notices me, i had already bounced off his bumper and landed flat out on the ground. Plus bike on top of me.

I notices before all this, there were a another bike behind me, if i notices that, i would of pulled over on the hard shoulder, and given a hand to put the bike up, make sure he/she would of being ok to travel, but nope, nothing, just went round me and off he/she went.

Not sure about, but if you see a another biker on the ground or broken down, imagine if that was you, and wouldnt it be helpful if another biker stop, and ask if you needed any help.

It's not only rude to leave the scene of an accident like that, but illegal, especially if a party is injured or there is vehicle damage.

I presume you weren't hurt else you would have mentioned it. Still that's really poor form on the part of the biker. Did the car stop?

I think if I'm going somewhere with luggage I'll pack my toolkit specially. Smile

i rode the long way home for a rideout round the twistys

spotted a lad walking a new vespa along a country road

turned round offered him a lift back into town and the use of my mobile so he could call his wife and let her know what had happened

broke down myself once when the clutch cable had gone on the rs

and the only people that stopped was a bloke in a car and a bus driver

all the bikers went past me but turned their heads away

shame on you

I would always stop to help a biker after an accident, it's disgraceful that guy didn't!

I also always try and stop for bikers who have broken down too, unless I'm in a really big hurry and can’t afford the time, except of course if they’ve broken down in the middle of nowhere.

Although, I often find it hard to stop for bikers who have broken down on the motorway because by the time I've managed to get over to the hard shoulder I'm a mile further down the road. This is because I'm almost always in the fast lane and when the motorway is busy it can take a while to get to the hard shoulder safely.

In the summer a biker pulled up outside and dismounted and looked at his bike in a very pissed off way.

Being the helpful person that i am, i rushed outside and offered my assistance. I was unable to help him with the snapped clutch cable so i offered to store his bike in my back garden and give him a lift to where he was going. Covered it up with my spare Oxford cover and took him 10minutes up the road, telling him to come back to collect it whenever.

I'll stop for cars if they have a nice lady in them! Thumbs Up

I do like to stop and help any motorist in trouble not just bikes, thats maybe becauseof my background in mechanics.

But a mate of mine having just bought his new 1300 Hyabusa Limited edition pulled over in a laybay to ogle his new bike and was rather embarrassed to explain to the 4 people who stopped to help in 20 min's that he was not broken down

Cheers

^^lol. I always slow if I see a biker in a layby to see if they need help. I usually make a thumbs up/thumbs down sign, but I haven't yet figured out whether they should do a thumbs up or thumbs down if they actually want me to stop!

Some very nice people gave my bike a lift home in the back of there van a few months ago after I cleverly melted my pistons rings near York Raceway on the way home from a straightliners round. Can't for the life of me remember there names, but I remeber they said they had a busa and posted on 200mph.org If your reading this guys, thanks once again.

As danny said its too hard to pull over on the motorway when you spend most of your time in the outside lane. I've lost count the amount of times I've gone out for a ride, pulled over for a quick fag and had bikes pull over to see if I'm ok. One wednesday night when I was on my way to a bike meet I saw 2 bikes pulled over so slowed, they gave me a thumbs up so I carried on, about 10 miles down the road I pulled over for a fag when I heard 2 bikes coming towards me, fast. They came flying round the outside of a truck saw me pulled over and slammed on the brakes, I gave them a thumbs up and they carried on, if I had been broken down me slowing down for them earlier may have helped me out in the long run. Thumbs Up

I would always stop to help a biker in an accident but I would stop to help any driver involved in an accident if there wasn't already a crowd gathered. Apart from Fiesta drivers, I don't like them! Laughing

The twice I've broken down only one person has helped, which was a policeman who was extremely helpfull.

I'll lend assistance to any other 2-wheeler in need, hopefully my mind-set will rub off, if I'm prepared to do it, hopefully other passing bikers might be prepared to help me.

And I've got a top box! with bungees and cable ties in, and other such emergency bike fixing things.

I rarely stop for broken down bikes because around here 99% of them are Harleys & if you are naive enough to buy one of those shitheaps then you get your just desserts. Plus if I'm doing 80-90mph I'm not about to slam on the anchors are carve across 5 lanes of freeway...

Altho the last one I stopped for had merely had his sunglasses blown off.....

... which I managed to run over as I slowed down & pulled over behind him... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

The only one that ever helped me was a harley styled rider coming back from billing aquadrome with the lads, my air filter fell off my speedfight and i picked it up but lost the bolt, the bloke gave me some string , tied it up secure for me, Smile

I broke down on the NSR blew it up, and the RG and no one helped me home, i had to drive illegally to go get the RG aswell Rolling Eyes

Doh, if i see someone ill stop, like the time i saw about 8 indians trying to change a wheel on there honda, i didnt need to tell you drove a honda they all do Laughing heh anway i turned round and came back, i have a lot of mechanical experience and they had done it so i just carried on.

Some girl binned a scooter when i stopped she was very rude to me so i left her to it, she picked the bike up herself anyway and was ready to go again Rolling Eyes

If i see a bike ill stop to help or a car, im like that ill make friends with my worse enemy if i had to Laughing

Sounds like the old unwritten rule about stopping to help a fellow biker is dead.
What has this world come to!
I ALWAYS stop, dont matter if its a ped, a harley (they cannot help it) or a sport's bike, that biker in need of help could be you next time!
Sorry to hear about your accident and the fellow biker from not stopping to help but dont let that stop you from helping some-one out if you can in the future.

I'll always stop if I can - again, I know sod all about mechanics but I've got a backseat and a mobile phone.

Saw a guy on a VFR800 on the hard shoulder of the opposite side of the A40 once - didn't bother going all the way down and turning round cos this is a really busy road and I figured someone would be along shortly.

Came back about 4 hours later having been where I was going and he's still there! Now on my side of the road so I pull over and see what's going on. Turns out he's been kept waiting for ages for his mates to come and pick him up in the van. By this point it's dark and getting quite cold - so I end up nipping down to Burger King for him. Smile

I'd always stop, provided I had enough time and space to do so safely.

The problem is that often you can be unaware that the person needs help, and hasn't just stopped for a fag break.

One time I was coming back from the Kent Bike Show when a crowd of chops went past at high speed. As they did, the rider at the back lost his back light & number plate, which was promptly run over by a lorry.

About 100 miles later I pulled into a Little Chef for a brew, and got talking to two guys from Glasgow. Turns out, one of them was the guy who'd lost his light etc. Wasn't much I could do, but I gave him my address and phone number in case the police pulled him over.

The point is that at some point, we all need help.

If you never give it, don't expect it.

Cheers,

Byrnie.

Buddha - hope you weren't injured mate!! Thumbs Up

I would stop to help anyone that had broken down - if I could, not that I could do much to help, but like someone said before, maybe a mobile phone could help!

When I had my off a couple of months back, loads of cars stopped as they were passing to see if the could help, also one motorbike and a guy on a push-bike asked if I was ok as he cycled up this VERY steep hill - but I was fine, 'cause I had Razzy to the rescue!!! (Cheers Scott).

Also, the second week I had the bike when I crashed into the back of a car Embarassed a kind taxi driver blocked the road of the oncoming traffic so that I could get my bike up onto the pavement out of the way of rush hour traffic!! Thumbs Up

It's all to do with Karma IMO, you just never know the moment you might just need someone to stop and help you!

Thumbs Up Karma Thumbs Up

I know little enough about my own bike, much less other makes/models, but I always stop it I see another biker who looks like he may be in trouble. Almost always they have the situation under control and don't need assistance, but I'll keep on doing it anyway.

I'd like to think that any biker would do the same for another biker - there's enough arsemuppets out there on the road in cages without so-called bikers adding to their ranks. It doesn't matter if you know jack shit about fault-finding, spannering or fixing broken chains with a paperclip and gaffa tape, it's enough that you stop and ask if they need help.

Because you know that one day, it's going to be you stuck by the side of the road with a dead bike and a flat phone battery and how are you going to feel if they all ride past without stopping?

Just make the effort - you've got nothing to lose except a bit of time... Thumbs Up Cool
