Look, I know these topics are annoying, but I was looking at

https://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39789&perpage=15&pagenumber=10

they seem to think a twist'n'go will whup various bikes
has anyone ever been done by a scooter
if so I'll cancel my plans to do my bike test, and tune up a scooter instead!!!

if you can't be bothered to view the link, this is the worst post, describing how he thinks a 50cc scooter will whup a ninja, ferrari and an R1

"here an aerox against a Kawasaki Ninja 600cc

here is one tuner sprinting against a ferrari ( marco from XSH )

This is jubbega where I already have spoken about.

here is the movie against an R1

Here you go, now you asses will be quiet"

Can't really see much in most of those vids really.

This is an auto scooter and it ran a 12.3 standing quarter with a terminal speed of 98mph at Elvington earlier this month. Thats a damn good time for a scooter.

Never really off the lights but those 125's can get upto 30 pretty quick. I have let them pass if I'm filtering and they are filtering faster, I'm not that fussy about beating every one on the road.

some of the peds can keep up with me until I get into second gear, just because of the fact they can just twist the grip and go, I have to be fairly gentle off the clutch if I'm really giving it some off the line.

Not been blown off though. a mate's rebored RS50 (read RS80) would probably come close though.

I had a chance to ride a friend's 210cc 4-stroke Gilera Runner after riding a 50cc 2-stroke for several months earlier this year. His bike is capable of around 95 mph and puts out, I'm guessing, 25-26 hp. Bottom line = Weeeeeeeee Very Happy.

Damn impressive time Thumbs Up.

However I suspect the amount spent doesn't really justify the performance gains, unless you've got money to throw away for the sake of having a fastish scooter Smile.

That thread is pretty much a definition of what a ped boi is. Thumbs Up

Top speed of 98mph, impressive for a 50cc ped, but I don't want to think about how much money has been thrown at it. Shocked

They all prove that a scooter is initially quicker off the line due to not having to keep the front down. and they were over very short distances, 100 metres max with the R1. And I think that the R1 was meant to do it on one wheel.
When both bikes hit 60, the scooter stays there the Ninja and R1 disappear.

So this proves scooters are great for theyre intended target which is being quick around busy city's and being easy to use.

Wotcha.

I can't see any problem with the 'twist n go' set up Wink

A tad larger than a 'ped

It works for me.

utter crap from a standing start the r1 will be travaling around 60-70 mph at 50 metres at 100 metres is will be quickly approaching 100mph

All the time, I just let them get on with it.

Said this once but I'm going to say it again,

No matter how fast I'm going there is always a scooter trying to get past me.

I got my ass whooped by a Hardly Rideable motor scooter a couple of years ago on my way back from Stormin the Castle Rally on my CB125 ratbike. I don't even think he was trying to race me, just cruising.

It was originally a lambretta of some sort but I believe the engine was out to about 400cc with all the trimmings...and a 6 foot long twisted steel springer front end 'swedish style' with an R6 brake caliper on a 10" wheel ffs! Good for over 115mph he reckoned.

The r1 is more likely to be doing 100 at around 200m I would have thought, would have to have a lot longer wheel base to get it at 100m I suspect.

A seriously tuned ped should be able to keep up initially where the bike has trouble keeping the front down.
The scooter's are also lighter and will presumably have their clutches set up for drag racing.
A cack handed bike rider wheel also tip it towards the scooter.

However, spend the same amount of money on a bike (including purchase price) and I suspect you will get a much faster vehicle.

HHHMMMM Yeah it's totally down to the fact that they are just twist and go, once the bike is going, on a drag strip it's a case of making sure you don't fall off launching it, it's like ppl say keeping the front wheel down even the thunder cat would wanna lift in first with a handfull so an R1.......
I'd reckon that the scooters would have no chance on a 1/4 mile strip not talking 100m with the camera behind so you can't see whats going on!
Anyway not a fan of scooters just think running 1 BHP never mind 70 BHP through a wheel barrow wheel!!!

See above for the time for a seriously souped uo scooter.. not too shabby. Have seen other's still doing better than skylines etc, but still a way away from 600cc+ bike times.

Indeed, if it was a car that scared a bike and made the rider veer off into a bush I suspect it would be another story Thinking.
