Does anybody know roughly how far away the coners are from each other in the figure of eight for a cbt?

Another quick question when turning a corner in first, if i let the pull the clutch in a bit to let power off, when i let the clutch out again i jerk, does this mean i want to turn in second and ive only got a 50 cc and well 5th gear is 30mph..... enough said by the way this is slow riding mainly for my figure of eight on the day, i know when im up higher in the gears you dont normally turn this hard.

Thanks all

Quite some distance really, though in my CBT we had a comp. to see who can turn the tightests. The instrutor won lol but i can a close 3rd outta 4 lol.

As for the jerking, try going up one gear. Usually happens if your slowing down to 1st and turn, you should be turning in 2nd if you don't have to stop. Hope that helps, i've only done my CBT so i'm not really that experianced.

Andy

The instructor on your CBT will start the figure of eight of quite large, and when everyone is able to do it well they'll make it smaller. There is no set size, I would guess somewhere around about 10-15 metres between the cones, that is just a rough guess off the top of my head.

You will actually slow down more if you don't pull the clutch in and just don't give it any more throttle. By pulling the clutch in your are just coasting along with no engine braking at all, there isn't much on a 50cc but going you might as well make the most of the engine braking you have. The jerking is when the engine starts providing resistance to the back wheel turning, what gear you want to be in really depends on how fast you are taking the corner at, the lower the gear the more engine braking, if the engine is going at about normal rpm then you're in the correct gear for that corner, there is no "you should corner in this gear". For slowing riding like when doing a figure of eight you will be in first gear as it's about walking pace, 2nd gear at a real push but you'll be needing to slip the clutch a fair bit so not really a good idea.

You don't need to worry about making sure you can do figure of eights and the other parts of the CBT, the CBT is intended to be a training course and it is very likely the other people doing their CBT's will not have riden a bike before and will definately not been practicing riding for it so there really isn't anything to be making sure you can do well enough.

Yeah like said above the CBT is just a traiing thing I done crap on my figure of eight they just look to see if you can do it about three or four times.

Slow riding is the key to perfect machine control Like also said above slip the clutch, get the clutch to a point where you can add as much revs as you like it won't make a difference. You'll know it's there as if you add any throttle it won't speed up just rev higher, You use your back foot brake to control your speed.

As for going around corners master the slow walking pace on a straight first then you'll be fine in a corner as it's just the same, it'll be jerky if you don't slip the clutch enough as the throttle response on bikes is so fast that it's always going to be jerky this is one of the reason you slip the clutch to make it nice and smooth. It's like when you pull away your slipping the clutch up untill you are at a speed where you can let the clutch out it's the same in a corner although you just keep slipping it. Try to always have the power on (clutch not throttle) have a little throttle again this is just sot he engine won't stall but it should'nt effect your speed and should be able to rev up and down with out altering your speed.
Oh and once you get a feel you'll notice that when you lift the power off it makes it worse through a corner as the bike will want to go straight on from the point it's at so keep it smooth oh and never use the front brake!!! you don't want your front wheel sliding from underneath you!
Hope this helps don't worry the CBT will be fine I had no bike experience at all and three months on I have past my DAS.

I dont know weather its in experience or what, but as soon as i touch my back break, i feel im just lightly touching it, i seem to be locking it up rather than edging on it, and i seem to prefer the front break for slowing, if im going to fast round a corner i tend to just ease of the throttle rather then breaking so much, but then ive only been slow so we will have to se, i only have 11 days left and i cant wait.

Hi

Surprised the cones are that far apart. The old Part 1 test had a section doing a figure of 8 and the space allowed was tiny. It was virtually impossible to do it on a sports 125 like an NS.

All the best

Keith
