Not the question you're answering to start with.

I presume you're talking about road-track racing, rather than motorcross.

The first thing you need to do is get some track time. You will find you are probably a /long/ way off the corner speed and braking of the fast group. Wait untill you can at least keep up with an average fast group in the corners/on braking/starting to accelerate.

By now you would probably know enough to know that a 125 is a bad place to start.
There is an Aprilia super-teen championship that uses moderately stock road rs125. Apart from that, 125cc racing is for GP bikes. We're talking under 90kg and over 40hp. Expect to have to change the carbs and tyres to suit the weather on the day etc. Engine rebuilds at the least twice a season.

A better place to start would be MZ racing. The 250cc MZs make about 25hp; about the same as road going 125 2 stroke.
There's also a 250 2st/400 4st class that is good for begginers and fairly cheap.

But, don't expect be anything but humiliated until you get some track time in.

How much track riding experience have you got, what group do you go in and what bike do you use on track at the moment?

If you want to race properly, expect to pay out a LOT of money.

If you want to do 125 racing, you'll need a tuned Honda RS125 to stay competitive, and you need a VERY good rider, if you think your both fast already, you have no idea.

If you just want to blast around a track having fun, just do trackdays. That way its cheaper, you don't have to worry about winning and you'll have fun.

Maybe.

But if you have a racing 50cc ped the likely hood is you are already racing them.

Do you have a racing 50cc ped, or a road ped that you happen to think is 'fast'.

I know race tuned peds can get to over 70 or more often. Usually are quite lightened etc etc.

Best bet would be to have a nosey around local kart tracks...
Or go try some minimoto; similar power/size engines, though a lot less weight/size. Also you get to rent a properly 'racing' (if a bit shabby Smile ) bike.

By the way, for those looking into racing that haven't seen a track yet, minimoto is an excellent place to start.
You can start out doing the equivelent of track days, but can hire the machines. After that it's much cheaper to start and to continue racing, it also tends to be a bit less competitive I believe and is going to hurt you and your wallet a lot less when you crash.

Race tuned moped's are capable of 85-90mph, usually run about 24bhp.

For racing the 70cc class, you'll need a Piaggio Zip SP (only one worth running) and about £1600 worth of parts + labour fitting them, plus tires, and spare pistons.

If you want to have some fun and race your road 50cc's, you can usually enter the moped mayhem endurance races, nothing over 50cc and it is who can do the most laps in something like 8 hours.

I presume that's for the 70cc? Seems a damn lot of power for a 50cc to be making.

Erm, have you ever raced rift?

Yes, you do have to get a licence.

It is very expensive and most I talk to about it are quite 'blase', while I'm still excited about it having not done it.

There were Aprilia RS125s (road version, from the superteens championship) in the FAst group at Lydden when we went there. Hardly slow in the right hands and more challenging in some respects than a bigger bike to ride fast.
